Hi I am new to this and need some help. I have a satr diamond tumbler and the motor isn't strong enough to turn the barrel. I am wondering if someone can help me with this issue. can i use any motor to replace the old one, or does it have to be from star diamond? as far as i can tell they are out of business. you can send me an email or answer me here. i appreciate your help.
thanks

Welcome!
If I remember correctly, Star Diamond was purchased/has become Diamond Pacific, so Diamond Pacific might carry the parts specifically for this tumbler.
As for using any motor, I'm sure some knowledgeable person will come along and help. I personally don't see how it could hurt - same horsepower, continuous duty, same RPMs.... You might have to get a different size pully, however.

Hi I am new to this and need some help. I have a satr diamond tumbler and the motor isn't strong enough to turn the barrel. Could be the motor is fine. If the barrel is pretty full, you might need to give it a push to get it started. If the load has a lot of hammer-broken or crushed rock, it may take it a while to get evenly distributed enough to run smoothly. How big is this tumbler?

Hey Guys, glad to see you found the board. I think Ark is correct. on both aspects. Overloading can happening easy as well, i agree. here’s the site and phone number for Diamond pacific diamondpacific.com1-800-253-2954 i have an older catalog, but you can order a new one off the site for free. I believe you guys have a 12 pounder if i recall right. as well, if the motor is easily removed, replacing it with a similar type as noted shouldn’t be a problem at all. there may be some alignment issues at frist, but that can be fixed no problem once you see it.

If you can't get the original part then you should be able to pick up one that will work at a small motor shop!I didn't want to wait for Lortone to ship me a motor for a qt66 so I checked at a shop in town and bingo! Took me 10 minutes to drive over and pick it up! Good luck and welcome to the board!

Hi I hope you are enjoying your new hobby & abig welcome from UK. I cant help as regards the tumbler whats been said is true.
I have changed motors and made new tumblers so if the motor is roughly the same in all aspects you should have no worries But make sure the pulleys are the exact size to get the exact speed ( if you get a bigger pulley you could end up with gravel)!!

If the rollers aren't turning even if the barrel isn't loaded then it sounds like the motor bushings could possibly be seized or maybe it has some bad windings or something...? An overtight belt will cause problems with the barrel stopping too. Have you tried starting the tumbler first, then loading the barrel? Some models of tumblers have trouble starting up under full load but once you get them going they're OK. I've never operated a diamond tumbler myself so I can't be of much help specifically but the general principal of operation is the same for all rotaries. Sometimes if you dismantle it & oil the bushings then properly adjust the belt tension, things will perk up. Good luck & hope you get it sorted out without doling out too much cash.
