Hi everyone! I just stumbled on this site and signed up. Hope to get good info and make new friends! I have just purchased (and am waiting to recieve) a lortone 3lb tumbler. I am located in southeastern North Carolina-is there anyone here who lives nearby? I am currently trying to locate places to buy tumbling rocks, as the area doesn't seem to have much in the way of material. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I recently went to Franklin, N.C. and spent a day at the Sheffield Mine. My wife found a 9ct ruby and I got a 4ct. We are very anxious to return! ;D

Hi Shek, Welcome to the best message board on the internet. The folks here are very knowledgable and some are experts who actually make a living playing with rocks!! (go figure...) I don't know much about the Carolinas as far as good rock hunting locations but if you check the buy sell and swap section ( forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=buysell )periodically you can find some good deals... Again, welcome! Dan

Hi shek, and welcome to the sight. I'm also relatively new here also, but the people here are great at helping with almost anything. If you are looking for rocks or rock hunting places in your state/area, check out the Location section. There are a few posts that have links that will lead you to sights containing all kinds of info about your state. stump jumper - here at this sight - seems to have a wealth of info on locations and types of rocks in different areas. He has a couple of posts there that have some good location sights. If not, try a PM to him and see if he can help. (hope you don't mind sj) He's helped me tremendously. Of course everyone else here is willing to help too. Also, like everyone says, post lots of pictures. Everyone here enjoys seeing everyone else's work and ideas. I've found that there is no such thing as a stupid question here, so ask away - you will always get someone to respond! Good luck with all your projects. Dave

Sandsman- your reply reminds me of a friend/former co-worker who insisted we (all employees) were "Mushrooms" (kept in the dark and fed s***.) lol
