Hello all!
I've been around the board a few weeks now and thought I should post some background on how I got here.
It all started in early July when the wife and I took a trip over to the coast of Oregon. We moved to Oregon about 3 1/2 years ago from Southern California where we both lived for all our lives. The Oregon coast is quite a bit different from the So Cal beaches we're used to. When we were told that you could find agates, jasper, and lots of driftwood lying around I couldn't wait to hit the beach. Well...we came home with a car load of rocks and driftwood. Had a hard time getting the luggage to fit back in though! ;D
Next thing I did was buy a tumbler...then another, and another. I now have 4 rotory tumblers totaling 30 lbs of tumbling madness. I bought a workforce saw, am awaiting my cab grinder and trying to buy a slab saw or else I will build one. We have rocks everywhere and I'm planning to run over the hill to eastern Oregon to pick up some thundereggs and obsidian and whatever else I can find.
Heck...my driveway is 1/4 mile long and was done with all kinds of rock over the 100 years that it's been here and I've been finding all kinds of interesting stuff in it. My wife thinks I've gone nuts because I'm crawling along the driveway with a bucket of water washing rocks off! LOL!
Anyway...that's where I'm at as of now. I'm going to post some pics in the photos thread of my first load of beach agates and jasper and some of the driveway rocks I've found.
It's great that I found this board the first day after returning from the beach trip. Learning lots and enjoying every bit of it.
