Hi there. What town are you in? I have family in Forest Hill. There is supposed to be petrified wood in La. Maybe a little south of you, not exactly sure where. Welcome to the board and the hobby. It's a great place to learn everything, almost, about rocks. Tonja

Hi Ladyt, i'm in Pleasant Hill, about 60 miles south of Shreveport and 10 miles East of Toledo Bend. Yes there's lots of petrified wood around here, but I get jealous reading about people picking up agates and such in their backyard! ;D

Hi Troy, Welcome to the forum!! I hope all goes well with you getting involved and also introducing your son to the hobby. Don't put down petrified wood, it can be absolutely beautiful tumbled and cabbed. I wish I could find more of it up here.

Thanks guys, I do keep most of the petrified wood I find, I have never cabbed any but I have tumbled some. If I ever get the money to buy a saw I will try to cab some.

Nobody here at home to talk about rocks with, you guy's give me a place to learn, discuss, and laugh about all the things involved with this hobby. OH YEAH I GOT THE BUG, BIG TIME!!!!! I am going to join the only local rockhounding club in this area next week, and am looking forward to sharing with others. Thanks, Troy

Hi Troy -- this time last year I was just getting home from a 2 week gig at the Monroe evacuee shelter with the Red Cross. When I took sanity breaks I'd pick up rocks from the soil around the building and ended up with a really pretty collection of mixed jaspers and stuff. If I can find the picture around I'll post it. I was impressed.
