Well you guessed it my name is Larry. I think at some point I will have to have a cool screen name.
Here is a brief bio
I live in Connecticut (past 35 years)
Started liking rocks when I claimed a garnet mine at age 5 LOL ;D. It was ledge in the middle of housing development. Every weekend at some point one of us kids was there scratching and hammering away. Nothing like like red shinnies to catch a kids attention.
Married with three girls
I have a full time job in the health care field for a company that provides services to adults with development disabilities.
I started making jewelry about 8 years ago. It started out as a hobby, but as the kids got older I had more time. And as my interest grew it became a spendy hobby. I still think of it as a hobby; as it is fun and I would do for nothing, but I do sell some jewelry and cabs; all the money goes back into more equipment.
I did some wire bending and weaving. Never tried the wire wrapping. I moved into working with ring and pendant castings. I then moved into the lost wax castings. I got into faceted gemstones, ammolite and for the past year I have been buy rough and cabbing it. I had been using my sister cabbing machine for several years, but bought my own last year. I am mostly self taught. Learning from doing has always worked best for me. When I get stuck or cant get the result I am looking for I ask for help
I like to trade
Not shy about giving my opinions or jumping in to be a part of the process. Life is to short to sit on the sidelines
What I am getting into now is PMC and beading. Both of these aimed at using the cabs that I make.
Ive done landscaping, framing, plumbing, rough electrical. I see something I like and think how can I do it myself. I tend to pull on all these experiences when I am trying to do something myself. Some times I come up with some crazy ideas, but it keeps life interesting.
I welcome corrections; so if I put up something and you know different let me know. I get names of things mixed up sometimes; with all the different jasper and agates and then all the local names and trade names for the same rock; I can tell you right now I will never get it straight. So I write it down and then have to look it up. Organizing all this written information is also challenging; you can see were I am going with this. I try and will let you know if I am not sure.
Anyway that was probably to long. I look forward to getting to know everyone, making some friends, learning and sharing.
