Hello everyone, I'm new here and new to rock tumbling/collecting rocks. I have been looking around on the internet for more information and I found this site which is the best. I haven't yet started to polish my rocks so I'm brand spanking new LOL. It started when I went to this beach someone told me about where they say you can find quartz and other stones and you're allowed to take them. I went and brought some home and started to research about polishing them and here I am. I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with. I was thinking of buying the lortone tumbler with the two barrels i think the model # was 33b? would that be a good one? Also I took pictures at the beach cause I loved it so much. I also managed to get a few closeups of the stones and was wondering if these look like good stones to be polished? they are rounded already so would I even need to put them through the first coarse grind? Thanks in advance! Oh yeah this is the link to the picture www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=509976439&size=l

Welcome to our little rock hang out Them look like grate stones to start out with! I get alot of rocks that are wind worked or smooth from the wind I put them in all 4 stages just not as long as some of the rougher stuff. I like the Lortone Model 3-1.5B Three 1.5 lb. Capacity Barrels for starters that way you can use 1 for 60/90 1 for 120/220 and 500 and 1 for polish alone you can buy it here for $97.00 and also get the grit pack to www.therockshed.com/tumbler4.html we all do things a bit dif but one thing you can count on it lots of help along the way from kind and fun RTH friends. Hope this helps some best of luck. Steph

Wellcome Leena, what a nice picture! It fits great for a desktop background. For polishing rocks, chose the ones that look good and polished-like when whet. These are generally the ones that will take a good polish.
