Hi all,
I'm in South Carolina, in the Upstate near Greenville-Spartanburg area, and I've found lots of smoky quartz and other stones that look nice for tumbling and cabing. Really have learned a lot so far reading the posts. Any suggestions on good tumblers, saws, cabbing machines would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards, Fred

Fred Welcome to our rock hang out Them sound like great stones to start out with! I like the Lortone Model 3-1.5B Three 1.5 lb. Capacity Barrels for starters that way you can use 1 for 60/90 1 for 120/220 and 500 and 1 for polish alone you can buy it here for $97.00 and also get the grit pack too www.therockshed.com/tumbler4.html Alot of us use the work force from home depo for triming and sawing small stones it is about $88 we all do things a bit dif but one thing you can count on it lots of help along the way from kind and fun RTH friends. Hope this helps some best of luck. Steph

welcome, Fred!
a friend of mine brought me a whole box of NC rocks a while back, i'm guessing SC has some of the same. you guys have some great natural finds including the elusive rutile quartz!
as far as equipment, i've had good luck with the Lortone brand tumblers and saw and the Diamond Pacific grinder (the Genie).
good luck and again, welcome to the board! KD
