Hi everyone! i've been a rock hound all my life. have been beading and making jewlery for years. have done some wraps with no guides, just ideas in my head of how it must be done. i'm pleased with what i've come up with. i do love working with wire. but i got a tumbler about a week ago and i'm hooked for life! i love waking up and having it be the first thing i hear in the morning. and it's so hard not looking into it every hour on the hour. i skipped the mixed bag of rocks that came with the set up, and went straight to some tormaline pieces i had. i did take before pics. i can't wait to get to the finished product. i've been on-line looking up tumbling, and geology and moh's scale, and all that good stuff. so much to read out there! and i found a place that i ordered more grit from yesterday (and some crushed rock and a couple of books too). and when i asked, was told this is the best web site around for info. so here i am what can anybody tell me about polishing tourmaline? i'm new to florida, by way of PA, AZ and iowa. every place i've ever been has great rocks. i'm thinking that now that i have a tumbler i'll be looking at every rock i see in a new light. i can't wait to go back to the beach again. so if any of you know florida well, i'd love to hear where some nice rocky places are to visit. i'm looking forward to getting to know you, and i'm glad you're here margo

G'day Margo. Welcome to the board. If you have a question about anything to do with rocks, tumbling, wrapping, slabbing or cabbing someone here will able to answer. If you want an answer about the tourmaline, post your question in the "general rocks board". More people look there for questions to answer than the do in this section.
Have a top day.

I would like to suggest an unusual lapidary product from your state, fossil manatee ribs. They can be found in many of the rivers and beaches in the central and southern portion of Florida, and cab quite nicely sometimes when not porous. There's always FL shark teeth too.

yes, I haven't seen Tampa Bay Coral for quite a while. It's primarily for sawing in half. Not too much lapidary uses besides that, but they can be spectacular!
