I'm new here and I see a lot of very neat pictures and valuable info. I'm not a newbie to tumbling and lapidary, though. Next year will mark my 50th year of doing lapidary. I've been tumbling for only 30 years though. I'm very lazy when it comes to tumbling. I only use a two step process: 1. Tumble in coarse grit for a month and 2. Polish for a month. I've scaled back on my tumbling lately. I used to run 4 - 10# units and 1 - 40# unit. Now I only run the 10# one and the 40# one. I've slacked up on my slabbing so I don't have as much rough to run. I'm looking forward to participating in the discussions. I'm still perusing the forum to learn how to post pictures. Bob

Be cautious about picking my brain. You're assuming that I have one! I will be happy to answer any questions that you have. I have also done jewelry work and metalsmithing for 30+ years and teaching lapidary, jewelry making and casting for the past 13 years. In a few months I will be retiring from my pay-the-bills job in the Biotech industry and devoting full time to teaching, cab cutting, jewelry work. I may even get into selling my work..... maybe. I haven't in the past because my hobby would then be just another job. It might take the fun and pleasure out of it. Bob

That two-stages tumbling sound good. Could you please show us some of your results using this method? At the begining of the members photogtaphs area there are some instructions about how to post pics. Also pics of your jewelry would be very welcome here.
And, of cousrse, welcome here to you, sir!

Hi Bob, Welcome to Board. I saw some of your work and the goblet blew me away. Compared to your 50 years of experience, I am just a newbie.
We are relative neighbors, I live over the hill near Santa Cruz.
