Hi all. Received my order from Ebersole Lapidary today. 25lbs of 60/90, diamond wheel and a diamond belt for my grinder. Now all I need is some free time. Anyone know where I can get some of that? Is there any break-in process for the wheel or belt? The wheel is a 280g Nova and the belt is a 600g. Unfortunatley the info sheet packed with the belt was for a flat lap and I didn't see anything in the box the wheel came in. It's like Christmas all over again. Ed

WTG Ed! Christmas is fun anytime ;D I seem to be having some problems finding a diamond wheel for my grinder (the one I got for Christmas). It seems the diamond wheels are all too wide for it. Mine came with a 3/4 inch stone and it looks like the largest I can fit is a 1 inch wide stone.
I did find some last night at Diamond Technologies but there's something I don't understand. They have it listed as having 60 mesh ... is "mesh" on a diamond wheel the same as grit? I'm assuming that's what it means but sometimes it's bad to assume things.

Cher, I ordered a one inch wide from this place on Ebay: search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQsassZjadecarverQQsorecordsperpageZ50QQsosortpropertyZ1It was only $35 plus $11 shipping from California. The low price is because of cosmetic blemishes (or so says the seller). But, for $46, even if it only lasts 1/2 as long as a regular, unblemished and pretty one, I come out ahead. This is one of those "buy it now" listings and the listing lasts another 4-5 days. Cal Cal

Nova Wheels according to my Diamond Pacific manual that came with my Genie sez:
"Nova Wheels must be broken in by sanding and polishing a large agate cab prior to working with others. This is necessary in order to remove excess resin coating surfaces the diamonds. Spend from two to five minutes on each wheel with the first cab, working it over the entire surface of the wheel. "
hope that helps, KD

I just got the wheel this week from Richon and it cost me 11.50 for shipping. I noticed that they had different charges for shipping I think if you pay more it might get here faster but I was not in a big hurry, it looks good I can hardly wait to try it.

Thanks Cal, I looked at that link but there wasn't any wheels listed. I'll bookmark it though and check now and then to see if they come up with more.
Warren, how long did it take for you to get it?

Now all I need is some free time
Isn't that the truth! When you find out where to get some, let me know! I also need some energy. Lately I have been so tired when I get home from work, all I want to do is just sit and do nothing.
I am looking at the diamond wheels where Warren ordered his, just haven't ordered one yet. Kinda unsure of what mesh to order. I kinda/sorta remember a few posts a while back between Doc and Sands about mesh size, but haven't had the time to go back and search for it. So, sands, what size is the best - 60. 80. 100?
I ordered 25 lbs of grit from Ebersol's a few days after Stoner, so mine should be here soon. I hope so anyway because I only have enough 60/90 to recharge my barrels this coming week and I am not even sure if I have enough to do all of them. So, if I don't get it soon, some of my barrels might not be spinnin'! Yipes!

Thanks for the info KD. The wheel and belt are broken in and I have to say they work much better than the silicon carbide wheels. Thanks for the advice John on the soft touch, I can see how that can be beneficial. Hey Llana, I know how we can get some free time, quit working!! ;D The story of my life, when I got the time, I don't have the money; when I got the money, I don't have the time. Oh well, Ob la dee ob la daa.

llana i bought an 80 grit wheel and it took about a month or more of grinding to stop leaving deep scratches in the rock they came out with a 220 belt just took alittle longer but i liked the way it went right through the rock but i think if you dont wanna work with the deep scratches then go with a 100 grit --i would prob buy another 80 grit when this is dead im thinking i might just get alittle extra out of it before i have to replace it at 160.00 plus shipping hahaha
