I have a Thumler 3# with the white lids that wear through.
The first lid got a hole in it on the 2nd batch of rocks: I filled the hole with epoxy putty, and it wore through again.
I obtained a replacement lid, and, following the advice of somebody at Thumler's, put a patch of bicycle tire innertube on the inside of the lid. That one's holding up OK, but I must have used the wrong kind of adhesive (I think it was an aerosol rubber cement, which I sprayed on the patch but not the lid). The adhesive has crept out from under the patch and has picked up grit & rock particles.
I'm going to get some more lids, and I want to stick the same sort of patches to them only with an adhesive that will stay put and not interact with the slurry. While sealing the edge of the patch to the lid, so particles can't get stuck between the patch and the lid. Ideally I'd like something that turns to vulcanised rubber, or something with similar properties.
Got any ideas?
Thanks.

Whenever my lids start to wear thin, I stick a strip of duct tape over the weak spot on the outside of the lid. I keep using the same lid until it has worn all the way through the plastic, and then replace the lid (I hate throwing something away when it's not totally finished) The duct tape acts like a "skin" and holds the slurry in temporarily.

Rock Shed has black lids for the 3# Thumblers that hold up a lot better than the white ones. I replaced my white and bought 2 extra just in case and haven't needed to use the extras yet.

Hi Wades. I have used a disc of plastic stuck on to shield the lid , cut from the bottom of a emultion paint tub (20 Lits)
make sure its a tight fit inside the lid AND sealed it (or the grit will get behind it and force it off) A friend in Wales uses a disc cut from a old car inner tube.
