I have a 2 questions please, I have a new leather belt, and now I have diamond compound. My belt is "fuzzy". Do I have to prepare it some how, or it just a matter of wearing down the fuzzes? The diamond paste, I bought 2 grams of 3,000 and 14,000. I want to split my belt, 1/2 and 1/2. How much do I use, and what do I do with extender fluid? Thanks for you help

You'll have to break in your new leather belt to get rid of the fuzzies. I didn't know any better when I got my first leather belt and just started using it as is, and it didn't work very well. I think if you take an agate slab and use the edge of the slab against the belt as it's spinning, you can knock off the fuzzies. I use 14k on the left side and 50k on the right side of my belt(8x3) and I only use about 1/3 of the belt for each, which leaves 1/3 of the belt in the middle to separate the two. You don't need much paste, so squeeze out maybe 1/2" onto the belt, then using your finger, work it into the leather going around the belt until you can't see it anymore. I can't help you with the extender fluid because I never use it. I've been using a spray silicon lubricant every so often and it seems to rejuvinate the diamond paste.

Exactly right stoner. Matter of fact several years ago some of the polish companies had to start saying in the directions about the rejuvinating and alittle is better than allot. Now I read that article in a Lapidary book and the main polish was Rapid Polish that the article focused on. I have no idea if they now mention these tips. But ya Stoner, good advice... Same here on the extender fluid. I just use a small spray bottle. Anymore I always finish up all my work on leather...

yea i just use the spray silicon in a can and every once in awile turn on the belt and give it a coat as its spinnin and it helps stop the leather from pullin the cab out of your hands

Hi, Can someone tell me please the difference between using leather or pads with paste, or using a normal grinding stone. I am new to this and getting completely lost on the best way of grinding. I have still got to decide which way to go. Thanks a lot. Max

Hi Max. You would use the grinding stones for the shaping and smoothing, and then use the leather and diamond paste for the polishing of the stones.
