At the request of a member,I am showing my homemade dop and stone heater. It is quite simple and cheap to make.I used a 1 gallon acetone can,but you can still buy the metal cans at surplus stores and such.I took the can and drilled enough holes to get my snips in to cut open the base, leaving enough room for the feet.I then set it on a wood block and drilled the vent holes you see in the top.I then drilled the hole for the light socket, cord and feet.I had a old light fixture laying around and I do not remember its rating, however this will require a 200 watt bulb so be sure to get a socket for that wattage rating. Then its just a matter of putting in your bolts and socket.Did I leave anythin out???My pot is a 25 cent stainless steel bowl found at a garage sale.It will have your wax ready in 15 minutes.I usually do a bit of trimming or shapeing of cabs while I wait. Brad top bottom back please feel to ask any questions,if I don't know Condor does.

That is brilliant!!! I love how resourceful we get when we need something!
That seems well worth the effort, sometimes though it's just better to buy the darn things!
But THAT would be worth doing! Would it work with a 100 watt bulb? or would it just take longer to melt the wax?

Great idea! I don't dop 'cause I don't cab, but I'll keep it in mind for the future.
Adrian
PS. That blue cab seems to have such a special pattern, could you please bring it closer?

Thanks Brad, that is an excellent description and photos. Looks pretty easy to make. I'll have to scrounge around in my shop to see what I can dig up. I've got several cans but most have the chemicals still in them. Looks like another fun project.

Tweetiepy,Dop wax is really shellac, not a wax at all.I doubt 100 watts would melt and if it does it would take a while to melt. That being said 100 watts would not heat the stone to the proper level....you may be able to get by with a 150.....do the make such a wattage bulb?
