I will be getting a 7" wet tile saw after Christmas. I was a safety person while a machinist, years ago, and I wondered if some of you could share some safety tips for using a tile saw, or lapidary trim saw for cutting stones.
Thanks in advance!
Merry Christmas, and happy holidays to all!

howdy thom....can only think of 2 things....use a GFCI outlet for sure....and safety glasses.
you will find the saw very simple to use....and the diamond blade wont get you like a grinding wheel in a machine shop....it just will rub your skin instead of grind it.
oh ya...i prefer to sit behind the saw and pull the rock to me....instead of push it thru the blade....i dont get wet that way ;D....others prefer to push it thru.....and wear funny little suits so they dont wet ;D ;D.
you will enjoy that little saw.....i do...after ya get her going....get on back here....a lot of folks here have tips for the tile saw....kev

Hi Thom! Kevin gave good advise, the only thing i could add is when you saw small pics.some times a small piece on the other side of the blade might get caught in the saw and stop the blade,if it does,SHUT OFF YOUR SAW then remove the rock.............Rocky

one thing is you might consider a dust mask. some rocks put out some nasty stuff. even if your using water. the dust will get into the mist. tiger eye is one to be careful with. it is asbestos mike

Mike, if my fuzzy brain isn't letting me down, tigereye is an agate pseudomorph after asbestos. The asbestos has been replaced by agate. The only danger is the silica dust which shouldn't be a problem cutting wet.

your right about tiger eye. i was just using that as a example but as to wearing a dust mask from what i have learn about keeping it wet. maybe does not work because when your grinding. the dust particles git in the mist and you breath that in. put a dust mask on and grind some say malachite then look at the mask. wet or dry you are getting it in your lungs. i was a cotton ginner for 15 yrs and they had what they called White lung. so there was a lot of info about respiratory safety. and Thom when the insurance man at the gin told me that by the numbers of years work. and injury's to that time i had a 68 percent. chance of being killed or losing a limb. i quit and became a machinist

one more tip thom. i would think you know this. but when grinding. i will not wear gloves. because its possible for the machine to grab the glove. and wrap me up in it. mike.
