Following on from the other post, this is probably a fair place for it to reside now. Summary :- Anyone who is interested in distributed computing technologies for the purpose of research and study, may like to visit :- www.grid.orgThey don't induldge in anything untowards - like spyware or adware etc. .............. Have a read, check it out, in your own time, no flames pls (especially across boards - eeeek), if its your thing - have fun with it - if not just keep on tumbling - (actually we can do the latter either way ). All is quiet in the western front - all is smoooooooth. "cooool breeeeze ... birds and treeeees" ;D (SEGA Rally Championship - classic game if anyone ever won the rally - thats what it says at the end.) Catch you laters. Andy

You're a good man, Andy. The link above can be a bit confusing. There are two communities involved in the United Devices distributed computing projects. One is grid.org and the other is world community grid. The link in the text on grid.org will take you to IBM's world community grid. The link on the left panel will take you to grid.org's UD Agent. The forums link will take you to the grid.org forums, which are not associated with world community grid. Confusing enough? I thought so, too and I'm a member of both grids. The good news is that our efforts appear to have been successful. The screening process for a cure for cancer is to be completed in the first part of 2005. We've already helped in finding cures for anthrax and smallpox. We are hopefully on the threshold for a cancer cure. At least, more effective treatments should come out of this. The new project being run on both grids is the Human Pretome Folding Project. Unlike cancer, this project uses a significant amount of computer resources. It can be the key to a cure for Alzheimers and another way of combating the various forms of cancer. Please go into it with open eyes. Ask questions before jumping in. I'll be happy to answer any questions that I can, and I'm sure maz will too. The site has some good information on it, but seems geared more toward the computer savvy and not the average user. One last thing...As you're probably already aware, there are a few egotistical hotheads in the grid.org's forums. We put up with them, but they don't represent the vast majority of us. You don't have to join the forums to help, but there are some nicer folks there than you've been exposed to. The moderators don't represent us. They are volunteers like the rest of us and aren't anything special. The admin there, UD_Moose, is a pretty decent guy.

A post there AFTER I had helped smooth the waters really opened my eyes. I was a newbie at this effort and enchanted by what it was doing. I thought the forum would reflect the good samaritan nature of the project. I can now see why you were turned off by the tone of the posts. Per me and Gromit's request, the thread is now closed there. Allow me, at least, to apologize for the tone some of the other members of that board took with your concerns.

Maz. You really tried, and I respect you for that. You presented a site and let us see. My quote in my High School Yearbook was, " I didn't think it would work out that way." Reality, Andy has kept it on the board. It still might do some good for someone. Thanks for trying. I appreciate it.

Thanks, docone31. I really needed that message right about now, after all that has happened.

I was apparently wrong about wrapping the cancer project up in early 2005. We just got word that they are plugging more molecules into the project. The completed ones have been commercially screened and they're looking for companies to develop and test the new drugs. Just an update.
