In the redneck post (I think I know or have an idea about the meaning of that now - cheers) someone said pics. Ok - heres the tree - with two robins on top (as one gets a bit lonely up there!) And at the mo - I'm just making a couple of bird tables for xmas presents, thats the current project. All 45 degrees - nothing too clever as Im short on time as per usual - but they stand about 7 ft tall so the birds have a bit of time to get away from cats. And the messy garage - believe it or not - this was absolultely spotless the other day - got some serious tidying up to do when Im finished. Now then - I must think about sands's latest cab - thats a really tricky one. Laters all. Andy

wow, cool pics, Andy! are you going to urethane the bird feeders? nice gifts, for sure. love the tree, too! Robins aren't part of Christmas here like they are in the UK, in fact American robins don't look at all like British ones.
i had a bit of a problem today getting into the site, was it my computer or were you doing more maintenance?
thanks for posting your pics, Andy,
KD

Andy, you have a touch with the wood. Good miters. Nice tree. How come a cat isn't in the tree hunting for goodies, ornaments, string etc.? Lots of sawdust there. I am more of an hacker with wood than a carpenter. I enjoy seeing good tight corners.

A table saw!!! I am soooooo jealous!
The tree is beautiful. I love the robins on top.
Good job on the bird tables. Are you going stain them, paint them or put clear finish on them? Whether you stain, paint or finish them I highly recommend using 1/2 tung oil/1/2 MinWax clear gloss polyurethane. Puts a beautiful finish on wood, dries fast and protects the wood from the weather. I use it on all my wood projects.

Beautiful tree Andy. Love the bird feeders, my yard is full of them, though we don't have a lot of birds right now, mostly Common Redpolls from up at the top of the world. Cute little buggers they are. I need to make a feed like that, saw some plans somewhere of using pvc pipe for the post, critters have a bit of a hard time climbing it then. Easy to put a baffle on too. Thanks for the pics.

Nice bird feeders. I like how the bases turned out. Makes me feel sorry for my poor yard birds. Here I am a woodworker by profession and my birds get empty plastic ice cream pails with holes cut in them. But then again, the bears that occasionally come in my yard tought me not to put anything nice out.

Cheers all Havent (quite) decided on the finish yet - the second table top is going to get the full treatment as ive cut all the wood and will coat it before building the table, thats what I would have done with both given the time. The thing is - will staining then covering that with a varnish / 1/2 tung oil/1/2 MinWax clear gloss polyurethane stop all seepage over time? When ive just varnished pine in the past, it tends to get a whiteish coloured substance coming through beneath the varnish after a few months - particularily in winter. Hey - the robbins - maybe there the UK version of a redneck??
