Here we go again with the dangers of winter. We've got a nasty ice storm going, it's raining so hard you'd think it was the middle of summer. I've salted my steps 3 times already and the ice just builds up on top of the salt. Cars in the ditches all over, the county and state sanding crews can't keep up and NOW our power is going. It' gone out about 3 times already!! It's times like this that I wish it was below zero, at least it would be just snow, not ice. Although, 1 inch of rain equals 12 inches of snow ... an evil alternative. I hope if anyone else is getting this you're safe and prepared. It stretches from North Dakota to Michigan, those of you out east best get ready and be prepared, extra batteries for flashlights, candles, food, water and beer. I got batteries, candles, food, water but forgot the beer, now doesn't that just bite! Cher

aw, man! you forgot the BEER? for shame, for shame!
it's just done rain here today, even warmed up downstairs a little. supposed to just stay rain too, but we'll probably get a liitle ice too. i'm with you, Cher, i'd rather have it snow than do freezing rain.
hang in there!

I couldn't agree with you more! I think we pretty much get your weather a couple hours later. So use to the power going out that we have some small back up power units. Only scary thing is when it goes out and our wood stoves are full - no fan to blow the air air out - gets very hot. Well better go shuffle off to the mailbox, woodstove and animals. Hope I stay upright.

That sucks, Cher. We had a major ice storm a couple of years ago and it completely cuts you off from everything. One thing I took away from that, get a little slim line Princess phone that plugs into nothing but a phone jack. Most of the time phone lines are buried and the phone will work when nothing else will. As long as it's not cordless or has an aswering macine, anything that has to be plugged into an electrical socket. At least you would be able to reach someone in an emergency when the cell phone battery dies.

I've spent much of my early adult life wanting to get out of the Chicago area. Now that I'm a bit older I tend to appreciate the season's more - even winter. Breaks up the routine, no mowing the lawn, and you really appreciate when Spring arrives. Sure, there are the dangers of ice, snow, and cold. But warmer weather brings thunderstorms and tornados. So what can you do?

Cher, and all of you others that live up there in the wintry area, please stay safe and warm! You're absolutely right, Cher. Winter sucks! This time of year makes me especially glad that I live in Texas and we usually don't get that much winter here. However, the forecasters are predicting a bad winter for us, too!

Hey Cher, up until two days ago, I had over a foot of snow on the ground. Now it's all gone. It is supposed to hit a high of 56 here today. Now I've got water all over the place as all that snow melted so quickand it has been raining on top of that. Winters here have gotten so strange.

Man, they don't hardly give you enough time between winter storm alerts to even stock up. We have another dandy going now, snow's blowing so hard I can hardly see the houses across the street. Varying reports on how much, I'm hoping for the lesser amounts of 5 to 8 inches and praying that the forecasters are wrong on the "up to 12" inches.
