Well it has been awile since I been on the rock site. Things here have been at a standstill. This summer I moved all of my rocks and equipment outside. I hauled in stone and poured the floor of the barn in concrete. Then poured the stoops and a large sidewalk in front of the barn. Then framed a divider wall ,put in a gantry cane, hooked all the electrical. Put in a wood burning stove and put all of my Dad restored antique tractors inside. Now there is no room to put my rocks in the barn. So Im looking for another place to put all my stuff so I can start up again. And another house!

You had some work going on there for sure! Full of old tractors, wow! Treasures abound. I could sure use one of those babys here to do my driveway. Good luck, glad you survived the hurricanes. Good nail banging.

good to see you back Brett, but i must point out that your priorities are a bit skewed. you did all that work and left all the rocks and good stuff OUTSIDE? no, no, no, you really must rethink this! tractors LIKE being outside, they were made to be in dirt and rain.
got any rocks you want to sell me?

brett i'm having sympathy pains with you over trying to get you a place to put your stuff. right now i'm at a stand still because the ground is too wet for them to get in here and do the demolition work needed to get my shop built. i am trying to be patient but it sure is hard. but we got rid of our horses and goats which eliminates the need for a place to store hay so all i have to do is move my lawn mowers out of that thing that looks like the pic donwrob posted as his shop lol. the guy that came to look at taking the "outbuildings" down (if you can call them that) looked up in the ceiling of one and said there was a skull. you should have seen my face - he was picking at me lol - could have been but i wasn't getting up there to see. we have 6 buildings that need to come down - 4 i've been in poking around and they are just plain hazardous, 1 i've peeped in, and 1 you couldn't push me in lol.

ain't that a pregnant dog - build a shop for your rock stuff, then get so much other stuff in there, the rocks still don't have a home! :)Sounds like you have been a busy fella. I remember the pic you posted of your son on one of those tractors. Neat!
Kim, are your outbuildings wood? If so, any of it that is in fairly good shape you can sell for a small fortune. Heck, if I lived close, I'd tear them down for the wood! weathered wood is hard to find around here and really expensive!
BE & I are going to build us a shop. We have scrounged most of everything we are going to use, so hopefully, it won't cost us a small fortune. We are both pretty talented at building stuff, so we can build it outselves. Might have to get someone to do the electricity, but think we can do the rest. I can do electrical stuff, but it's not my favorite thing to do! Scares the crap outta me! Just cause my brain is fried, doesn't mean want the rest of me to be! ;D

LLana, Home Depot, Lowes, and other chain lumber stores have books on playing with the electricals. It really isn't that hard. You will probably be doing wiring with the power off so no big deal. If you are really worried about the power, you can hook up the electricals, and get an electrition to look it over, and do the final hook up. The stuff they make today for wiring, even Jenne could do it! Black is hot, white is neutral, bare or green is ground. Use 14/3 Romex wiring and the receptacles are marked for what wire to use. Piece of cake. Intimidating at first, gets easier as you string more wires.

llana 2 of them have great cypress that i'd like to save but 1 wall has been covered in bees for so long i'm not sure about that one. the beekeepers i've talked to that have tried to help me get rid of them say that the smell is in the wood and even if you kill the ones there another swarm will come - and they have done just that over and over. we've had several entomologists try, had the beekeepers come suck them out and leave with them, torn the wall off, cleaned the honeycomb out, replaced the wood, sealed any cracks or holes and they just come back. watched 1 swarm actually come in - looked like a tornado of bees and in no time flat they had gone in a hole and you'd never have known it happened. the sound is what caught my attention i thought a 4-wheeler was running and i kept looking around trying to figure out what was going on - scared me to death - the beekeepers said "i told you so". pesky little things when they can't find water in the summer - you cut the sprinkler on and here they all come. and they develop a real attitude the hotter it gets. whoever takes the wood from that wall is gonna have bees . kim

Kim, have you tried spraying acetone where the bees go in? There is a certain risk involved but if you let the acetone soak into the wood, and really heap it on, it might mask the smell. Just do not play with matches during the process.

i hate bees. i can do spiders (if they aren't ON me) and snakes (ditto underfoot) but i am so NUTBALL when it comes to bees, it's an uncontrollable phobia. i have at least learned to pull the car over before jumping out.
but i go into primitive flee mode when i hear that buzzing close to my head.
hate them, hate them.

Ah, Kim! I'm such an animal weenie. You had to get rid of the horses and goats? I'd be crying for days. I mean, I know the logical part: need to/right thing to do, but you said the horses were like big dogs. They have names. AAHHH Glad to have you back Brett. You'll find a way to give those rocks a home. You have your priorities as a rockhound cookie

cookie to me the best and happiest horses are those being ridden or worked. ours have been pasturing for 2 yrs now and i'd really like to see them doing more. the guy that took them is gonna let his grandkids ride them but he's got some work ahead of him before he does that. he started lunging mine last week and he seems to be a good horse person. he already had 10 horses so they are in good hands. i hope they will show mine - it's where he needs to be.
