To all my friends here. A building inspector here red tagged an Osprey nest. Ok, it made the papers, we all laughed, the inspector was given some time off to re evaluate life in general. We have 3/4ths acre. On it is a southern pine, approximately 24" in diameter. An Osprey pair has started building a nest and wouldn't you believe it, they found a red tag and it is in their nest! We had to laugh. They are beautiful birds. Jenne had a near mother experience and went outside and the birds were making their nest, talking to each other, and in general, flying back and forth. I wish I had a camera. We are going to get one when we can. I hope the Ospreys complete the nest and have little ones. I hope they get used to the high density populace and do not make another one down the road.

i wasn't sure what an Osprey looked like, so i looked it up, unfortunately the best photo i found was copyright, but you can look at it if you follow the link: huskertsd.tripod.com/species_photos/osprey_2.htmimpressive looking bird, wouldn't want to be a small rodent or fish when he was in the area! bet the chicks are cute, maybe by the time they hatch you'll have a camera, Doc! Aww Doc, that is so cool. They do pretty well in a populated area. One of the mills that my hubby hauls to has a pair of osprey nesting in the yard where they unload the wood. They started building on a transformer so the power company came in and put up a pole near it with a metal grate platform for them. They moved the sticks over to the platform and the birds took to it right away. The wood yard is next to the Mississippi River so the drivers and people who work there can watch them as they catch fish and feed their young. They've been there a couple of years now.
Cher PS ... that is they nest there in the summer, not now.
