What are your hobbies other than rock collecting, cutting, polishing, tumbling, buying, looking, etc, etc???????
I'll start.....
I love playing ice hockey, golf and baseball. I love watching the Chicago Cubs (ouch, ouch, ouch, I know) on TV. I love camping and especially fishing and spending time in the mountains and desert.
Look forward to seeing what your interests are.

Man! I could write 2 pages of stuff that the DW says are my hobbies, to shorten it up a bit: I started ponding last year, and am going to start building a above ground, formal pond with the butt load of expensive bricks I got for free. Then I'll have 2 ponds, to keep me away from the kids, when they are bratty. I love my Jaguar's, SCCA club racing the one XJS. I have also been into radio control nitro speed boats for 15 years, before that, rc nitro race cars, bow hunting, got my record book buck in '95. The one the DW says is my favorite, antagonizing her to no end.

OMG - is there a word limit for posts? ;D Cross stitch, woodburning, beading, soap making, candle making, running after my son, crafts, quilling, needle point, rug hooking, playing society/trivia/board games & beating the pants off hubby ;D, making jewlry, baking, cooking, running after my son, getting him out of trouble - I know I already said that but it's much more than a hobby - more like a full time job, sewing, watercolors, frisbee, badminton, water balloon fighting ;D pretty much anything that is crafting / hobby related, I've tried it at some point - I do a bit of everything - jane of all trades, master of a few (getting pretty good at running after my son )

Gardening and landscaping is my biggest hobby. Whatever I spent on my rock hobby is a drop in the bucket compared to that. (Got a lot of my plants started indoors too).
I don't know if I should mention woodworking since it's my full time business, but I also play around with it along with decorating gourds which leads to woodburning, drawing and painting (watercolor and arcylics). I also do a little beading.
We have a hobby farm with beef and chickens (cats and a dog). I also like to read, mainly the good old scary stuff, but also a lot of (ancient) history stuff. Like to get out ATVing when there's "free time" (what's that?).
Gees, what happened to me? I use to list off things like softball, volleyball, racketball, running, etc. Darn work has interfered with my play time!

i guess i've always been a bit single minded when it came to hobbies. not a big multi tasker. right now i am consumed in rocks, beading and learning to work silver to mount the rocks.
hey, eDog, i was in SCCA for almost 10 years as an autocrosser running a Lotus Super 7 in AP. we also had (just sold it recently) a 74 Lotus Europa. got to love those British cars, eh? hubby and i did some drivers schools, too and ended up racing (in the Neon hordes) in SSB Showroom Stock. expensive hobby that!
i like gardening and landscaping, but it's become more of a maintenance item as opposed to something i do for fun anymore.
before that i loved pottery but never really had the opportunity to do it full blown at home.
so it's ROCKS and all the things (saws, grinders, multiple tumblers and some of the best people in here that i've never met but now consider friends) that go with them and it's ALL MARK'S FAULT!
hehehe.

My other hobbies are B&W photography and hiking. When I (hopefully) get into a real home this spring and move all my stuff out of storage, I plan to get back into camping and astronomy as well.

Hmmmmmmmm - I'm learning to play the Great Highland Bagpipes. No, seriously... I got my chanter about a year ago, and hope eventually to join High Desert Pipes and Drums - a NM pipe band. I love all things Scottish. I have worked in Veterinary medicine for nearly 20 years, so animals are a biggie with me. (I am currently owned by 3 rockhounding canines and 2 stay-at-home felines). I love the outdoors. You won't find me at home much. I enjoy wilderness camping, mountain biking, hiking, photography and rockhounding, of course. S

Woodworking, but I'm a bit crud at it. I'll keep on trying though! As they say - "practice makes perfect" Programming - gotta keep on programming. Theres always a thousand ways of writing the same bit of code - its just a case of getting the best one Unix programmers are best at that. Joanna - any pics of your woodwork you could share with us? PS2 Games. I'm addicted to games (also the Nintendo GameCube). Best games Nintendo - Rogue Squadron (Star Wars type game) PS2 - Conflict Zone (tanks, troops and a big base ) Younger brother tends to come up with the best games for me to look out for (hes getting married in May this year - Dads best man which is excellent) - Sidetracking. He's introduced me to some stormers which Ive played for days on end and still not won (nay weeks infact). Ok - back on topic. Planting trees. Sounds strange - but I want to plant as many Conker trees as I can. So that when I popit there are still loads of trees behind. Did 20 or so last year. (I reckon the park warden's going to be miffed - all these little seedling conker trees popping up in a beechwood) Gaetzchamp - youre into fishing a touch? I do that when the weather gets warmer - as for spending time in the desert - you lucky ..... I wish I could go and sit in the desert and stare at dunes for 10 years. (has to be ten - only then will things seem right) Good stuff you do the sports - you must be fit as a fiddle as it were. Rose - you like your cross-stitch and having a good shag? Great stuff I doubt anyone would look down on Roses Hobbies Earthdog - can you send in some photos of the pond works? Sounds like an excellent pastime and I for one would like to see what youre upto. Hobbies. Hmm - I would like to think that one day I will prove Einstien wrong with the "bending" of space. This - I reckon - is the thing that makes me pull a chair up and just work. Whats a hobby? Tweatypie - "candle making". I tried that, and melted down a load of wax in a pan on the stove. But the candle I made from it kept going out. I came to the conclusion that I'd evaporated all the petrol in the wax - could that be right? Chassroc - tommies - I love em, the better half has a small greenhouse thingy - last year it looked like a square cut section of the Amazon rain forest - it was chocka with tomatoe plants of different kinds. As for the ballroom - nice - very nice. Ive an award in the Cha-Cha - Step step cha cha cha - turn around cha cha cha forward step cha cha cha. Back step........... Keep it smooth mate. Hobbies - hmmmmm. Life. Mark

Mark: re candle making - I've made candles a long time ago out of melted wax crayons - I'll use anything - the wick may be the problem.
I also looooooooooove playing the Sims 2 - any one else addicted to this game? It's a simulation game - you make your little people eat, sleep, pee, go to work and study hard (you gotta play to understand how it works)

boy after reading this i might really go into a mid-life crisis. where did all my hobbies go? it seems they came to a screeching halt after becoming a mother. but i wouldn't trade it for the world. it seems instead of going dancing i now watch dancing, the same for ball which starts up soon and i'm very disappointed i can't be the coach (seems everybody wants to coach the little ones and they search for coaches as they get older), i haven't given her a fishing pole with a real hook yet so i do get to do my own fishing still - give her a net or one of those scooby doo poles with a fake fish and she's happy as a lark, traveling when we have time, yardwork (this may be a job instead of a hobby but since i really like it i'm counting it as a hobby), crafts, games, reading, anything involving water or outdoors, i'm pretty sure going to birthday parties has become a hobby at this point lol.
i use to say i was going to add sky-diving at age 50 but that was when 50 seemed a lifetime away. now that i'm 44 sky-diving is definitely off the list and replaced with diving off the low board lol.

Ya want sad? Ya want pitiful? This is the first hobby I've ever had. The first time I have had so much pleasure doing something just cause I wanted too. Selling the stuff used to justify all the money I was spending, but I don't care anymore, I'm doing this for ME! For the last several years I have just been working my buns off, treading water, trying to start my life over again after a devistating turn of events. Now, I just want to have fun and take pleasure in something, just be selfish. I'm still working my buns off, but I play now as well. And I have all of these wonderful friends that enjoy it too ;D Well, I used to body build in my 20-30's, I guess that was a hobby (?)

I like this topic.. but sure had to think about hobbies. They are more a part of life at this stage then hobbies. So here I go:
I too work in a vet clinic.. have for 10 years so animals are a real biggie. I have a Rottie and a Norweign Elkhound. Also 2 cats who rule the house. I feed squirrels and birds so have lots of them around. I like country music. I love to read. We go camping every summer and fish year round. Computers consume more time then they are worth but Solitaire is addictive. Crossword puzzle books with lots of math quizzes are my favorite and I can finish puzzles easier than I can start them. We have 10 grandkids so a lot of time is spent with them. Only 3 live close so we do lots of beach stuff together. We live in a hundred year old house on a 8 acre property right on the Kootenay Lake in beautiful BC, Canada. We do a lot of walking but take quads most places.
So thats what I do when not playing with rocks.

I hope you all like pictures Gaetzchamp, Most hunters, like hearing that song, the first time or two it comes on the radio, the day before hunting opens, then it gets old real fast. Anyway, here is a couple shots of what made the record book, Boone & Crocket and the Wisconsin record book. The 12 point non-typical, weighed in, field dresses at 202lbs, and surprizingly, tasted very good, for being a 6 year old and in the rut. 12 point in the morning, 10 point in the evening, what a day I'll never forget. : 12 point on right, 10 point on left, Mark, here is what I built last summer, dug it all out by hand, wife thought I was freakin crazy when I came home and said, "I'm gonna build a pond" Before I finished putting all the rock around to hide liner, Look at these, when it froze this winter, pretty cool, huh? Ice mountian....
