I built a pond too. Here is a picture from last year. You'll have to excuse the net. I have a problem with Heron's stealing fish. I'll take some more pictures later today so you can see how the plants have grown in...

Earthdog-
Wow, nice couple of bucks there. No there no "tirdy pointer", but very nice, heavy-horned bucks. Sorry to hear of the horrible incident your communities had to endure this gun season. I went to college in Wisconsin (UWSP) and know what the deer hunting season means to the people of your great state.
So what part of the state do you hunt? Do you have a cabin and land there too? I didn't see any mentioned of fishing???? You gotta ice too don't you????
thanks for the great picts,
Gaeter

I have loads of hobbies, but watching movies and playing everquest are my two recent ones.
I also love to read, esp sci-fi/fantasy. And forum reading is another.
I do all sorts of handwork
I do some photoediting and photography and scrapbooking, too. Currently I am scanning all my old photos (and my mothers and grandmothers) into digital form.
We have a family forum so I post these, sometime colorize, restore photos, too.
I also wish I was independently wealthy so I could pursue my hobbies.

As I am reading others hobbies I recognize some more of my own.
Like crosswords, just got a new crossword dictionary... but I must admit, this is my bathroom hobby.

I used to ice fish, and walleye fish, just don't have enough time anymore. I shotgun hunt in southern Wi. outside of Beliot, and rifle hunt in Haugen, Black river falls. All of my bow hunting is done out side of Beloit on private land. It has been going on 11 years that I haven't been "skunked" on getting deer, at least to fill the freezer. ;D

Ok I don't feel too bad: Metal Detecting; Rocks (of course); Camping and outdoor cooking (especially with cast iron); Fishing and fly tying; jewlery making and beading (just started as an off shoot of this rock addiction) cross country skiing; covered bridging (looking at not building) hiking; garden ponding; oh and probably 100's of other things I start up on and then decide they are: A- too expensive or B- too time consuming! Oh and I play a bit of guitar (self taught) hmmm what else- Oh I like to complain a lot also!

Love the ponds and the koi! I had 2 above ground ponds and one below ground in TX. I could never get the koi to successfully breed, but the pond sized goldfish in the below ground pond spawn within about 15 minutes of tossing them in. When I moved PetSmart paid 50 cents a fish, it came out to about $150.00. I had 12 koi. 2 of them would eat out my hand, Dallas and Glitter. I would put food in my palm and they would swim up and eat. One fish, Clown, liked to be touched. He would swim up to my fingers in the pond and rub himself against them. I sold them to a botanical garden when I moved. Your ponds are beautiful, as is the play set for those two beautiful girls, how blessed you are. Don't like to look at dead animals. Breaks my heart. I guess I'll never get the hunting thing. I eat beef, but don't want to see proud pics of the cows in the slaughter house. But that's just me.

I'm sorry the pictures of my deer offended you, cookie. I don't want to see pictures of cows in the slaughter house, either, but then again cows in the slaughter house isn't a hobby. Bow hunting is a hobby, a sport, and is treasured by many, Just as rocks are.

Those ponds are just gorgeous. WTG on those beauties. So do you ever get to remove the netting? How often are the birds in there trying to catch an easy meal. I know airports and other places (wetlands that are severly contaminated) have air cannons that scare birds away. Too bad you can't make one on a much smaller scale; something that just puffs to scare fish eaters away.
Anyway, love the creativeness. Good on ya.

I used to have this beautiful white hawk that would land on my fence and stare at the pond. I just knew he was going to go after the fish one day (this was the goldfish pond, the koi were protected) but to my knowledge he never did. I watched him several times out my office window. Had a racoon visitor too, but he just robbed the bird feeders.

Raccoons will trash a pond in one night. Tip every plant over and eat half the fish.

I know! That's why this was so stange. This guy was fixated on the birdfeeder. At first he could climb up the water spout and get to it easily. Then we started extendening it out on a pole. We got a kick out of watching him try to get to it. When he would finally succeed, we would extend it out further. He allways came late at night, so we aren't sure when he gave it up completely. But he never meessed with the fish. We lived on some land that was backed up to a "green space" where nothing could be altered. I think the deer, rabbits, and occational racoons that showed up were pretty spoiled. It was such a privilage to watch them in thier natural habitat. We had wild things in our yard, it was kind of an eco system back there. Exotic frogs, gecos and turtles like I have never seen. It was a great time. ;D

I love the ponds and would love to build one if I knew anything about electric. Hobbies have been most of my life in some form or another. I hate a mundane life and can't stand wasting time sitting in front of a screen, either TV or movie. I started playing tin whistle 3 years ago when I heard some real cool Celtic music and taught myself that. Then went on to Digeredoo, to my friends amusement. Stll can't get that circular breathing right. Sounds more like cow flatulance than tones. I play bass guitar in the worship band at church and have been in and out of bands since I was 16 and taught myself 'Blues harp'. I've tied flies and play racket ball, when I can find a partner. The Arizona desert is always a gas to tromp around in, and when you get sick of hiking the desert drive and hour to the mountains. I like to fly fish and take any one of my guns out to the desert and shoot 'Tanerite', (exploding targets) targets and produce,. But mostly it is find rocks, cut rocks, tumble rocks, grind rocks, polish rocks, wrap rocks, sell rocks, you get the picture.

I pretty much leave the net on all the time. I actually watched a heron eat one of my more expensive koi one day. That kind of traumatized me. When they get to a certain size, I can probably remove the net. Otherwise the net is very unobtrusive. It is the same net they cover up trees in orchards to keep away the birds. Very thin.
Banjo, I hired an electrician to put a waterproof outlet box near the pond. I'm pretty sure he charged me less than $200. You want to really know what you are doing when it comes to outdoor electrical. Not that you are going to electrocute yourself or anything but you don't want to be fighting your circuit breaker all year...

My hobbies are camping (travel trailer and tent). I also like music. Can play guitar enough to make me happy as well as the harmonica. I always travel with my guitar anywhere I go. I also have a couple of Native American flutes. Haven't gotten too good with them, but they still sound nice when I do mess around with them. I plan on getting panpipes next.

Condor-
Love the guitar. We used to have this old timer come on our deer hunting trips and he'd pick the guitar everynight. It was very enjoyable and relaxing. Everyone misses him and that ol guitar.
