I went out to rinse my rocks in the driveway two weekends ago. I saw something move out of the right corner of my eye.. it was the bull snake! I think this is the same snake I last saw 2 years ago, and he has grown some! I flushed him out into the driveway and he gets pissed off! I confront him. now my dog Zoomer shows up to see what the fracas is all about. The snake decides its time to leave. He is over 5 feet long. Bull snakes, aka. gopher snakes, are prolific rodent eaters so I like having him hang around my yard. ed

Hey Ed, I can see your shoes in that picture, but are your feet in them?? MIne would be so far away I'd need a telescope to see the snake!

tweetie: no, I didn't have the camera taped to a long pole if thats what you are asking. and I was in those boots at the time that pic was being taken too... When I first saw the snake and was going to go inside and get the camera, I was so worried that the snake would leave while I was gone, that I picked it up and took it inside with me, and put it down once I was back outside with the camera shooting. I just made sure that I had hold of it far enough down the body that it wouldn't turn around and bite me. I had to pay attention too. gaetz: actually, when Zoomer first came up and the snake was still coiled up, it hissed at her BIG TIME, and she immediately backed off! (What is THAT? Whoa now!)

Why don't folks grab snakes behind the head, instead of down the body, no way it could bite you if you're holding it's head - (bear with me, I know nothing of snakes) *slaps Ed on back for his bravery*

Tweety, a constrictor is very strong. Grabbing behind the head, if not done correctly, the snake can turn and chomp on. The snake can also be hurt if not handled correctly. It is non-venomous, and can grow up to 8 feet in length. The lifespan is not known on bull snakes. In Punta Gorda, we had a covey of black snakes. We like black snakes as they eat rattlesankes, which we had quite a few of there. We had mirrored plastic film put on our glass doors and the black snakes could not see us. WE would watch them leave their burrows in the morning. Personally, I do not care for snakes. I do not dislike them, I do not like them either. They serve an essential part of the environment however. Now, the durn fools who let the mated pairs of Black Mambas, and Australian brown snakes loose there should be shot. Several years after the "accidental" release, several fry of each species have been seen. There are also some dimwits who let Kimodo Dragons loose in the Everglades. There are young everywhere around Ft. Myers. People have been getting injured. The bull snake has natural predators, so, balance is maintained. When a non natural species is released some things can get out of control. I applaud cuervo's photos and treatment of Billy. I suspect there are some hungry cats around there. That is a great string of photos.
