This is absolutely the best Forum I have ever been a member of. I have belonged to a few where people spent more time spatting and flaming than sharing information. I have read the posts carefully and see that after reading other posts, a lot of people would like to change their votes.
There have been a few posts that could be hurtful to others. Most people, if given the chance, will start out by reading everything they can. Then they will post a tenative question to see how they are received. Thanks to Cher, everyone on this board gets an immediate friendly welcome and answer to their question. We really appreciate all your posts Cher. I just hate to see any of the wonderful members of this group start sniping at each other.
Lets not let this one quest win, which he will if he is successful at changing this Forum in any way.
I'm a fairly new member, so maybe I don't have the right to do this, but I love this Forum just the way it is. Thanks Mark

I cannot vote on this issue, the questions lead to the same concept. I do not feel we will drive newcomers away from this forum by recquiring them to register. The registration process is negligeable. What registering does do, is give a sense of belonging. The administrator has done a great job on this forum. He really allows us to be self governing. The administrator has in the past had us vote on eliminating a thread, and there have not been that many that got sixed. Sands took his time, and stood back before joining. Registration did not discourage him from opting in. We have a category specifically for tips. Some of us, especially the newcomers, stumble on this. When a newcomer is informed of the category status in this thread, they ooops, and go to general category. I have not seen any resign from being requested to respect that category. I do not believe any serious person will be discouraged from joining the chaos by signing up. It gives a sense of belonging. I am a firm believer in sigining up. One can always back off. Either way, no one here has ever, so far, called anyone the less for departing. In fact their departure is usually noticed, and a compasionate call is worded. I think more people would join and participate if they had to sign up. The administrator, in his own way ,governs how we had ran for so long. That has been the determining factor, not allowing dingbats to spout off.

I think Arkie is right that this issue needs to be voted on again, now that people have had a chance to voice their opinion and consider the opinions of others. But I agree with Doc's comment about it being a leading question. I think the question first asks "Should we go back to the way things were", and then the first option is "yes, let's not drive away new members". That takes it for granted that changing things would drive away members.

I see what you mean, Rollingstone, but I don't know how to edit it. I just didn't want the squabbling to get started on this forum. I enjoy it too much. If someone would like to start another poll, just let me know and I will delete this one.

Since you can't edit them and can only delete your own post, perhaps you should check with Mark (which is what I did before I posted the first one) before you start yet another poll on this. He has requested the discussions be moved to Life, the Universe and Everything Else.

I look at it this way:
"IF IT AIN'T BROKEN, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT"
Is there a good reason to change the way the board has been running?
So my question is: Is there a problem?
Just my opinion.

I think this horse has been beat to death and it is time to drop it. I have been on this forum for a year and a half and as far as I can remember this register/not register to post has never come up before now. So, how & why did it become such a big deal now?
We had a guest post some things some of us thought were out of line - big deal! He didn't post porno, wasn't obscene, etc, - just annoying - he didn't post anything so offensive it calls for two threads on the subject and a changing of the rules.
As Tell says "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" And, IMHO, the forum ain't broke and don't need no fixin!
So, what say we drop it and get back to more important stuff - ROCKS!

I have asked Mark to delete this poll for me. I wasn't trying to start more controversy. I was trying to end it so we could get back to normal. Sorry I posted it. Maybe it will be gone by tomorrow. Trish

Trish, you tried. If no one else responds to it, it will go into the back files. I think this thread was good for all of us. I agree with everyone on almost most points. Like that verbiage? The freeze dried hippies burn out language. One of the things I respect of our administrator, whoever he is these days, is he set this thing up and kinda lets it fly. On our own we kinda keep it simple and to the point. The administrator is very reluctant to delete anything. There seems to be a real abscence of crap on this forum and occasionally someone pops up, gives his or her two cents and we just drop the thread and they either go away or comeback with a different perspective. Rarely has the administrator had to cut them off. I can only think of one person since I have been privileged to be part of this operation. Lotta good people here. Creatures of the dark, flee from the light. We shall shine on.

Cheers Mark.
