Just took this here to get it out of vendors.
I had the same kind of feeling from his post, more that it was like a paid advertisement than anything. Considering the fact that he is now posting as tijoe414 to slam KD there appears to be reason for distrust.
This thing with guests has gotten everyone in a tizzy but who can blame anyone. There's been people here for a long time who have done more than their share to help newbies ... many many "guests" included who came in with a name (not "guest" or "just guest" and generally joined with no ill effects or problems. For many they've become valued members who are in turn sharing their knowledge with other newbies.
But then we get the "guests" like the ones who have deliberately targeted some of these valuable members. Llana, I didn't see the first dig at Banjo that you referred to but I've seen the second dig just this morning.
Then there were the digs at Doc which I was pleased to see that Mark deleted. Unfortunatley now this same guest has come back as "the floyd" ... again a dig at Doc. And his post about glass to tumble, you all act like he was serious but at the same time he's over in another section digging at Banjo.
Oh and what about the one who made the cracks about Cookie ...
Is there any reason that everyone is getting tight over this? It's just sad that these "guests" are being allowed to continue. They are giving all guests a bad name and making everyone ready to jump.
Unless it's set up that you need to register to post, we really need to be more careful on how we react to these "guest" posts and answer only the good honest questions ... if we get any. But dang, it's really hard not to say something though when the "guest" is digging at a friend that you've made here.
Please ... don't let these pi$$ants make us fight between each other. That's all they are trying to do anyway. I hope that Mark will set it up to make guests register, even if it's just for awhile until some of this hateful dust settles and the instigators leave.

I second that motion.
If I want to slam anyone in this group I would do it up front and use my name...not hide behind "guest". I have made some friends here and I do not like seeing them or anyone else in this group pounced upon in any manner. I realy do not beleive we will lose any new members by having them register for membership in order to post messages. I do beleive we could lose some valued members because of a few bad apples, and that would be sad. Everyone in this group has a right to their opinion and to express that opinion without fear. However, I do not feel that a "guest" has a right to badmouth any member of a group they are not a part of......just my honest and open opinion.

We have a whole forum for vendors full of posts that sound like sales pitches for The Gem Shop, for Dad's Rock Shop (I posted that one myself) and any number of other vendors. Why did this particular post strike everybody as a sales pitch and why was it so unacceptable when all the others were just fine? I don't get it.
I don't believe this person is the same as guest. Their writing style is completely different. john414's posts always include either john414 or joe414, whereas the other guest is always just "guest". That, to me, differentiates between the two.
I was rude to guest when he put down Banjo. I was not rude to john414 when he posted on the vendor's forum because he did NOTHING out of line and didn't deserve to be treated as he was.
I may have missed it, but I haven't seen where john414 guest was rude to anybody until after they were rude to him. As I said, I don't blame him for not wanting to become a member.

I'm sorry Llana, I meant that john414 and tijoe414 are the same person. Whether or not they are the "guest" that's been bugging us with their nasties, I dont' know.

I've been down this road before, letting certain posts get under my skin. It's not worth it. If I see a post that bothers me for some reason, I just move on and ignore it. If it's a flame, responding just makes it worse anyway. I think that all the attention and bickering is just what a flamer wants.

ps. My skin's a little thicker now. If anyone wants to blast me for this post, or any other post, go ahead. It doesn't bother me at all.

So true! I like to egg on the guests- kinda just a Peeing match between two idiots (me being the tall one on the left). I should just learn to ignore them- But I was brought up to stand up for what you believe, defend the defenseless, and don't pick on girls! so when guests start there attacks- I feel the need to counter- Hmmm I must learn to keep my big mouth shut! Thanks doc and Ron for helping put me right!

Ok, here is my 2 cents, you ready? I think you should be a member to post, not a member to read and learn. I am not in favor of anyone here slamming anyone, I also am not in favor of kissing booty either. Even if you have to sign up before posting, that won't stop the buttheads from slamming someone. I come here with the mindset to be nice, learn and exchange wisdom. There are some of you that I consider my friends, and get much pleasure helping out, if I can. I didn't take his post anymore of a sales pitch than mine about the Gem Shop. I am sorry if I hurt anyones feelings, when I said "cool your jets" I don't agree how some people feel this is their forum either, it is no more mine than anyone elses, guest or member. I am just thankful that I have this place to go and talk with all you wonderful people about something that I enjoy so much. I understand we all get pissy at times, mostly because our better half is mad about how much time we spend on the rocks, and then after we wash our hands of grit and polish, jump on the computer and sit here for a long time, but now I think we all should raise our glass of wine together and have a group hug!

Personally I think the whole "Guest" issue has gotten way out of proportion, up to the stage now where registered members are falling out with each other - what is that all about ??. This sort of upset and disruption to the forum is EXACTLY the reaction that these people that troll on forums are looking to achieve. Also this sort of arguing (on the vendor thread) is going to do nothing except drive people away, alot of people are very wary of internet forums and if they see these sort of reactions to people it is likely going to put them off registering IMO. Personally having read Jon414's inital post I have to agree with Llana, I didn't find it any different to lots of other posts about vendors. What would have been the difference if he had registered and immediately posted that? From my experience of forums I think it is better to have people register if they want to post, purely from the fact that it is better for stopping spammers but also it is a deterent to people like this "guest" troublmaker. But even so I think if guest registering is allowed we should be civil to people that use it otherwise they will never take the step to register. Also if someone like "guest" the person that started all this, posts something it is much better to ignore it completely and send Mark a PM asking for it to be removed rather than giving them the attention they crave. I think the main thing with these trouble makers is that their posts are quickly removed and don't get attention. Lets not get to the stage where ANYONE that uses the guest function is distrusted, take each case on its own merits. Just my opinion as I hate to see the forum so sidetracked and people falling out over this. BTW - GROUP HUGS

Well said- There are too many plusses and minuses about the guest issue! I mean we have seen some great guest become wonderful members- And we have had our share of problems- *singing give peace a chance* Perhaps we can all try to encourage (as many of you do already) Guests to register- and just ignore (or not respond in any negative way) to the trolls? *wiping manly tears from eyes- Stefan hugs all the other members- Then Doc turns around and throws up*- Sorry I feel a bit goofy this afternoon (somebody spilled a product called Calm Pet which contains like 15% alcohol- so I got a buzz going!)
