What do you do when you can't sleep? I woke up at 3:30 AM and couldn't go back to sleep. (Pulled a muscle or someting in my back and it was hurting so I got up.) The way the robins are singing, you'd think it was daylight out ... maybe they sing in their sleep. So what do you do when you wake up and can't get back to sleep. I make a pot of coffee, turn my puter on and check the boards. Ok, so don't get on me about the coffee ... it's morning, I'm awake, that means coffee! Maybe I should have a beer, it's still dark out ... hehehehehe I wish my back would straighten out. I came home with a new (old) computer .... YaY me. Right now I have one that was made in January 1999 (P2, 133 MHz, W98) The one I got is a P3, 501 MHz with XP Pro. I'll need to move my burner into a spot and my son picked me up a new 40 gig harddrive for it. It's got an 8 gig in it now, I'll piggyback the 40 and partition it, I'm going to have soooo much fun with that (if I can ever pick it up to get working on it). I've got 3 - 128 meg chips for the ram, odd number (384) but it'll work and it's more than I have now. Hey, this ranting is pretty cool! Actually, I didn't really want to rant because I can't sleep, I just wanted to tell ya about my new (old) puter. *smile* I know, it's old but it'll be new to me and aside from the harddrive, it was FREE. I like FREE ... FREE is good! *sigh* It's 4:11 AM Damn robin is still singing ... Cher

First off congrats. on the new computer. I was practically pulling my hair out when I had to get mine this spring. Not as up on the computer world as you so it was a pain getting all my old important stuff transfered. Still haven't got some things like my camera program and pictures transfered. As far as not being able to sleep welcome to my world. For the last 2 years I'm thrilled if I can sleep past 3:00 a.m. ( I go to sleep around 11:00). Some mornings my darn day starts at 2:00. I probably have some sleep disorder, but at this point of the game, what the heck, you can get a lot of things done when you don't need much sleep. It's all fine right now in the summer when it gets light early, but in the winter it's kind of annoying.

Hey Cher Congrats on the new PC - with all that computer talk you sound like Mark! Was checking out the new PCs lately & discovered that now they sell 200 Gig hard drives as a standard! I would ask who would need something so big, but if they make it standard, it means that someone ran out of room on their 150 GIG probably - PS: DAMN birds - they must be "guest"

Nobody ever died from lack of sleep! Perhaps a few errors in judgement. What I do when I cannot sleep, is to go back to my books and CD's on stone setting, and diamond setting. They go into molecular theory and pinpoint forging theory. Half an hour of watching electron microscope images of grain shifting under pressure, and watching metal bulge retention, and my eyes get blurry. Then I wake up and want to blind set a trillion on a band. Good for the body.

i wish i could survive on 4-5 hours sleep, but i must be part bear or something because i feel as tho i go into hibernation and wake up beating up the alarm clock. on the odd occasion i do wake up at 3am, i guess i just toss and turn. hubby listens to audio books or reads til he's sleepy.
sorry 'm no help, Cher, but congrats on the new-old computer.

Even up that memory- XP uses memory in a strange way and uneven chips are less effecient (acording to my compgeek son- me personally wish I was still using widows3.x)

Well that just bytes Stefan ... pun intended. Ask him if he's got a couple of 256's laying around that he doesn't want. I guess if it acts stupid I'll put 98 back on cause it doesn't mind the odd number. Figure this then ... why on earth would they put 3 slots in if you aren't suppposed to put 3 chips in?
Tweety, that's just funny ... and your probably right. Next time I'll shoot a marshmallow at it and knock it off it's branch. I don't know "alot" anymore, haven't kept up my schoolin but put me back on a dos machine (without windows) and I can do enough to get me in trouble.
I know enough on the up side to keep the demons (trojans & viruses) off my puter ... and my daughters, and my nieces, and my cousins, and my friends, and, and, and .... I should go into business of cleaning them up. Went to my cousins to pick up info for his website and he's like ... can you fix this thing, I get popups and it's so slow ..... arghhhh took me 3.5 hours to get it fixed. Was kind of neat though, I was getting Bambi kisses the whole time I was there.

Ha 256's His computer has 2-1.5 GIG chips on it- I'll see if he even has any 256's laying around- I think he said it was actually better to leave the third slot open but I'll ask him when I see him again (he works night and I work days so I only see him on saturdays)

I can't even imagine having that much RAM. I do know that you're supposed to just double it but I figured what the heck, if I can bump it up why not. But then I know absolutely nada about XP ... I've been a total stickler for W98 refusing to upgrade away from comfortable. I've heard a lot of good stuff about XP Pro so thought why not. That would be awesome if he had some, check with him and see what he'd need for them.

My sleeping has become totally erratic. I would not be able to help, I just go with it. I get home from work, and if I'm tired I lay down. Sometimes til 7 or 8. then get up and work til 3am. But if I need to be in bed and can't sleep I have a few saltine crakers with crunchy peanut butter on them and a glass of milk. If that doesn't work I lie on the couch. If that doesn't work, maybe I'm not supposed to be slepping.

You got it CHer- He has a pile of computer stuff in his room but I'm afraid to look through it- He needs that much RAM because he and his friends set up LAN (local area network) Parties and play online games all night- I guess they use his computer as a server or something-

KD if that's the cause of the electricals, I am in serious trouble. I've got 4 upstairs and 2 downstairs right now, one dating back to the 80's is an old Apple 2c or 2e, can't remember. Oh yeah, there's 2 computers and a monitor in my garage and a monitor in the backseat of my car. Only place there isn't any is in the basement ... that's for rocks only!

Cher, it could also be dietary. I really like putting tobasco sauce on french toast with applesauce. It is like eating heaven. The only difficulty is gas. What I have learned about gas..... Never hold it in. If you hold back enough gas, it travels up your spine, enters the brain, and gives you thoughts. Mostly Sh#ty ones. If you do not want to stay up late at night with Sh#ty thoughts, never go to sleep keeping gas inside. Let it go. It is especially fun to be creative about it. Lighters and dark rooms are a lot of fun, cutting one loose under the sheets next to a loved one is fun, almost as much fun as putting their wrist in warm water. Just make sure you stand back and have good excuses. Remember, gas travels up your spine, enters the brain, and you get those thoughts again. That one is not the Electricals working, it is Fartman! Yeah. I remember back in my Boy Scout days, when we would get a newcomer. To test his mettle, we would eat beans all day on our campout. Later that night, we would grab the newcomer and stuff him in his sleeping bag and fill it fulll of gas and hang him upside down in his sleeping bag. If he made any noise, we would wap him with a pillowcase full of soap bars untill he was quiet, lower the sleeping bag, fill it with more gas, and rehang it. Twas a rite of passage it twas. One more step in becoming a man. The other fun thing is to let one loose in an elevator full of yuppies coming and going, especially good looking ones. You quickly step away from the guy in the New Young Lawyer Suit and say loudly, Wow dude, what did you eat? Everybody looks at him and you caugh and look upset. Those are fun things to think about when I cannot sleep. That and the things Becky the Airhead would do if you got her really drunk. When a person sleeps all night, they miss memory lane. Up late at night is fun.

WOW I tried to cab last night (results in a losey pic in the pic section) But I put the cabs next to EYE of The Storm (I won from KD) which is on my nightstand- and I slept like a baby- Only got up twice (I usually get up at least a half dozen times a night) Hmmm this rock thing may have something to it! I have taken a big step toword enlightinment. So tonight I'm gonna cab till the cows come home (hmmm that is pretty funny cause we sometimes refer to all teenagers as cows- they are lazy and only look out for their own pleasure!) and my son will be home late tonight- oh oh time for another layer of foil!

It is rare that I cannot sleep...usually because I'm upset about something( happens every year or two or three )...I just get up, go in the family room and turn on the boob tube, I get real tired iff I can resist the male temptation to flip through the channels.
