Anyone here reading the Harry Potter series of books? Well I got a new game called "Scene it - Harry Potter Edition" it's a DVD trivia game. Trivia about HP and it's characters through video clips of the movies & questions - I love trivia! But I also bought the 6th Harry Potter book, now problem is, I've read all previous books in this series multiple times, in French as well as in English (yeah I'm a geek) My husband has read them all as well - french & english (he's a dork too) and my daughter is reading the first book in french (she's NOT a geek at all). Problem is this: I bought the 6th book and I can power through the 600 pages in less than a week and pass on the reading to hubby, but he wants to SHARE the book - each reading in our own time - I can read on the bus or during my lunch at work, but he gets home from work at noonish and could read it then. Well darn if I'm leaving the book with him to read. Today he's at home and could probably read all day, but I swiped the book and took it to work with me mouhahaha. ;D The books sells here for $41.00 Cdn but I got mine for under $22.00 I figure for that price I could get a second book & sell it later and keep the other.
Anyone else into reading these books?

Oh Yes!!! I have read the series several times- We got the book Saturday ($15.97 at our local WW) and the wife and I have been taking turns reading it outloud to my daughter (she loves to read but this way we can share it as a family time thing!) I have read all the other books to her and she just loves em! We are almost half way through the book and I'm enjoying reading it out loud (it makes me read slower- and enjoy it much more) I am a British Lit Geek- so this is right up my (Diagon) Alley I read the last book (OoTP) in 2 days! This one I hope will last for 5 or 6- then the waiting starts all over (actually what I'll do is start at the begining again and plow through all 6 start to finish) Oh yea I love that Harry! Hey did you ever read any of that Fan Fiction Harry Potter stuff- I was hooked on it for a while- but too many of the stories were left unfinished- so I got frustrated and quit!

I did read some of those stories, some of them are great - one in particular was about Lilly & James about how they met & their story. But that too was unfinished... I think the 7th book will have a very big embargo on it to prevent anyone from reading it before it's officially released.

I have read them all but don't have #6 yet. My son is reading it now. I hadn't heard of the Fan Fiction thing, thanks!

I live in a part of the US that has a great deal of conservative Christian communities. When the first book came out, I had not heard a word about it until one of the local schools actually banned it from their shelves due to the fact that it had witches & wizards and was not good for young Christian minds. Oh, by the way, this is a PUBLIC school, not Christian. Do you believe that?!?! I was outraged! Anyway. Since they've become so popular and enough people complained, they allowed them back on the shelves of the local schools. Apparently the people that made the decision to ban the book (school administrators and local pastors) don't know enough kids to know that they are intelligent enough to know the difference between fact and fiction. Due to all the controversy over this book, I decided to read it and judge for myself. Ms. Rowling has definitely got a knack for writing because now I've read them all, several times. I haven't purchased the latest yet, but soon. I didn't, however, care much for any of the movies. Perhaps my imagination and that of the Hollywood people are very different. I'll stick to my own mind's eye and probably not see the rest of the movies. I can't wait to get the next book though!! ~stoned again

Funny cause they talked about banning it from scholls near here (Christian scholls not public) Well On parent get up and says the surest way to get every kid to read the books is to ban them! So true she was- As for the movies- well if you read the book then see the movie it is always disappionting- Thr RUnning Man- An ARNOLD movie in it's own right- was pretty good (not Great but good) the story however (Stephen King Short Story) is one of the best stories I have ever read- So I guess in the context of a movie the HP's wern't too bad- But compared to the books- NO WAY!

I reserved the book at Barnes & Noble several months ago. Went in around 11:30 pm to pick up the book at the stroke of midnight. BUT....... There were over 1000 folks there along with me. I happily drove out of the place with my copy around 1:45 am!!!!!!!!
I'm an avid reader...and have finished the novel already. The book was quite good! Sadly, I'm a Harry Potter fan through and through, but draw the line at dressing up or reading the fan fiction. Some of it is a bit much for me. <grins>
I look forward to another movie in the fall and whenever she publishes her next book. I'll certainly wait in line for it once again. It's a delightful series that takes me away from reality...if only for a short time.

Interesting Stefen, I believe the parent is right. When I was a child, I was forbidden by my parents from reading a book. The fact that I was told I couldn't read it made it more intriguing to me. The sad thing was that when I did read it (and you know I did, just because my Mom said I couldn't) was that it was disappointing, boring and over my head in terms of understanding it. The best way to get a kid to do something is to tell them that they can't!

I'm here with you all Bought the book the day it was released and finished it yesterday. Actually had tears in my eyes at the end of the book Can't wait for the next one and can't wait for the next movie to come out. I've read all the books and have seen all the movies sofar, even bought them all. I just love Harry Potter. My son actually got me started. I bought the books for him as they came out and he said I should read them. I have a hard time getting "into" a book and get very dis-interested, but once I started reading them, I couldn't put them down. I read #6 in 2 and a half days, stayed up til 3:30 in the morning the other day cuz I couldn't put it down.....LOL

I should try that on my son to get him to read more "I'm throwing out ALL your books... You're not allowed to read ANYTHING anymore"
Yeah, like that'll work... he'd throw a party

Please don,t anybody write about anything in the book as I'm on page 445 now and don't want the end ruined - now because I'M saying this, please don't take that as a "banning" since I really don,t wanna know the end - FLOW: I had tears in my eyes at the end of the 5th book as well, I don't think the 7th book will end well either as JK has no intention of doing more HP books, so she's even hinted at HP dying (which is foreshadowed in book 5).
But has anyone been reading up on the new girl playing HP's girlfriend, a new actress playing Cho Chang, named Katie (I think) there are multiple HATE sites of her saying they hate her for one reason or another (most mostly teenage girls who despise her because she gets to kiss Daniel Radcliffe and who are jealous of this. But imagine that, your first acting job in a highly anticipated movie, no one's ever seen you act and they already hate you (she's 17 I think). Poor girl! I've seen the other movies, and have found them very good - I read the books first, and even so, found the movies very good - but I too think Daniel Radcliffe is very handsome (okay so he's 16 but I didn't say I wanted to marry him!) My 4 year old son thinks Hermione is very pretty, loves her and will probably see the 4th movie when it comes out on DVD

I just finished the book! I've now got the long wait until the next & last book in the series. No spoilers here, but for those who read the book already, this week's Time magazine (in Canada's one at least) has an article about JK Rowling - it contains spoilers, so if you haven't read the book, don't read the article, but if you have read the book, it's got good info !
