I think we have a previous thread about work/hobbies somewhere...I've been employed in the veterinary field for over 20 years. Besides the obvious (rockhounding, rock tumbling, wire wrapping, making beaded jewelry) I love getting as far away from people as I can - I do a lot of wilderness stuff (camping, hiking, mountain biking) and I'm learning to play the Great Highland Bagpipes. ;D S

I am a jeweler. I design rings, settings, repair, cut gemstones, insult my customers, and in general do my absolute best to be a nuisance. My hobbies are building experimental aircraft, boats, and building hot rods. To do that, I need to go to the shop. As a matter of fact I needed to start my business to subsidize my real work, my hobbies. Ralph and Muffy are our children. We are rebuilding our house exclusively for them to feel comfortable and TOUGH! Ralph is a sweet heart, but he likes to be TOUGH! GRRR. Muffy is always mad, she looks at us with that ***k off look. She does like food however.

I'm a salesman for one of the biggest/best CPG (consumer packaged good) companies in the world (NM I call on vets). Hobbies - spending time with wife, dogs, collecting:rocks, coins, guns, knifes, books. Also mountain bike, ride horses, investing in the market and travel. Use to do before I got married: hunting, fishing and playing poker

I work at MIT - it's a university. When I'm not doing that I knit, I crochet, I paint silk then I sew on tiny beads onto it until my hand cramps, I make jewelry, I tumble rocks, and I play with silver clay. Don't let any of this fool you. I have a four-year old daughter so the bulk of my time is spent trying to find polly pocket accessories in the living room carpet. I'm married to a rocket scientist who spends his spare time building sports cars in our basement and tracking bits of metal through the house. Life is, as they say, sweeeeeet.

I work as an Area Corordinator, for a gas safety company, I also work at home doing admin and accounts work for my husbands company.
When I'm not doing that the 2 kids keep me busy, I'm also studying for a degree in Geology, getting a little bit closer to that.
When I have the time I play with rocks and attempt to do wire wrapping but dont get enough time to practise that so am still pretty crap at it. I also do cross stich and like to read.

I'm a graphic artist/marketing director/customer service manager at a small family owned company.
Hobbies? Hmmm. Where do we start? Gardening, oil painting, pastels, rock hounding & tumbling, drawing, billiards, cross-stitch, jewelry making, reading, drinking, home improvement and 120 volt wiring, not necessarily in that order.
As of today, I have my garden, of course, a painting and pastel in process, always rock hounding, nothing in the tumbler (what the...), a book that I'm in the middle of, a huge home improvement project we're about 1/4th of the way through, I should finish up my rewiring for the improvement project today after work.
Oh, and I think I'll have a beer... ;D

i stopped racing with other rats a few years back....but i've had so many different jobs over the years, it would be extremely boring for you to read them all, haha. so i'll try to just high light the general directions i've gone in...
i went to school for architecture, but ended up in Computer Graphics and Design, Drafting and Electronics for a long while, a lot of Technical Illustration, Graphic Design and Publications, even did a little Printed Circuit Board Design before the bottom dropped out of the computer industry.
I finally got to work for a small family owned and operated architectural firm. I then took a job with a larger, more prestigious A/E (architectural/engineering) company. I left the "ivory tower" of concepts on paper to "The Dark Side" of reality as a project manager for a General Contractor. (that was the hardest and most rewarding job i ever had!!) and finally drifted back to the design side for another fairly large A/E branch office.
and one day, after contemplating the murder of my meglomaniac supervisor, nearing either a stroke or a nervous break down, i said, "i'm done, life shouldn't be this miserable".
so now, i guess i'm Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds here at my house. i mow the lawn, plow the snow, generally take care of stuff. ...and of coure, play with rocks. i make jewelry to sell, but so far it hasn't amounted to anything close to paying the mortgage.
i'm very lucky to be married to an engineer that makes enough to keep us afloat. and he's very patient with me and buys me tools....heh, heh.
we used to be avid autocrossers and road racers, but that got a bit overwhelming (not to mention expernsive) so now we just go for the ocasional romp around the countryside on sunday afternoons. we have a 1970 Lotus Super Seven that is a lot of fun to drive...
i like trout fishing, but i don't get to do it often enough. i enjoy walking and hiking and camping, but don't get enough of that either! too busy having fun on the grinder!!
that's me!

I worked in law enforcement for the past 26yrs. Until one day in July when I had enough and said "I quit." Since then I have been trying to catch up on everything inside and outside my house. I am now able to enjoy spending more time with my hubby, dogs and birdies. I can now spend more time working in all of my flower gardens and on my rock collecting hobby. Hope to be slabbing and cabbing soon! I would like to go back to work part time and work with special kids at a school, such as autistic kids and include my pets with the bonding of one on one student. Until then, everyday is Sat! LOL!!! Time goes by so fast and life is just too short if you are not happy doing what you are doing. Like Doc, I decided to just do it and start a new chapter in my life. I am just so happy waking up each day without feeling all the stress at my old job. I miss some of the people and I did love my work but it was time to move on. I guess you could say my new job is HOUSEWIFE! LOL!

Hey Randy, I built my wife a G20 van with a 383/350, 450hp. She told me it had too much power. We retired it and she got a 1987 Suburban with a 454. I have been tweaking the TBI as she says she misses the torque, and acceleration! Imagine, trading a 22mpg machine for a 13mpg machine because the better mileage was too peaky! It does have a .224/.224 with full roller rockers, 2.5 with crossover, 1 1/2" rear sway bar, 8000lb springs, with teflon pads between the leafs, 1 1/2 front sway bar, all poly. Full guages with shift light tach. Now she misses the van. The van had that crisp solid bump on each cylinder through the exhaust. Little lope.

Hey Deb!
Sounds like I have a little in common with you!! I beat the streets for 26 years and finally had enough too!! (hence the handle of offbeat!) Now I do the Jamaican thing, I have about 10 different part time jobs. Everything from driving semi trucks cross county to putting some computer repair classes to use here and there. My most important jobs are to my two kids and wife, now I have the time to give them what they gave me for the past years!!
Got back into rocks this spring when I purchased a truck load of lapidary equipment at an estate sale. I love it!! Next best thing this summer was finding this BB!! Even met another member here that got me hooked up with a local rock club. It's great, plan on taking a silversmithing class in Oct. Should be fun.
Great bunch of people here!! It will make this coming winter much warmer and enjoyable!! Ya'll take care!! Bill

Hey Bill Guess we do have alot in comman! Yes, 26yrs in law enforcement is long enough. Even though I enjoyed my job, it was time to walk out that door. It was kind of hard to give up all the perks and good pay, but what I got back you can't buy! I got my life back! I am hoping by not working there I can lower my blood pressure which I'm sure was brought on by working there. I like that idea of several part time jobs! Sounds like it would be right up my alley...LOL! I agree with you as I am now able to spend more time with my hubby and family along with my 3 bichons, cockatoo and tiels. I am looking forward to fall and enjoying each moment of it. Instead of being caught up in the rat race. So far I haven't been bored or run out of things to do. Like you I can now spend more time on my rock hobby. I want to get into making wire cabs and tables/chairs with inlaid rock slabs. When I'm ready I will hit the pavement and look for some part time work. Until than everyday is SAT!!!

docone31- A 383 stroker would lay some rubber in just about anything! I don't know of too many people with one of those in a van though, I'll bet that you got some attention.
