Reminds all of us, how, in our quest for freedom, how bound we are to a central source. How is this force being used? What did we gain, acquiring our freedoms, and what did we give up attaining freedom

We took a pounding yesterday evening, bad thunder and storms with wind at 60-70 mph. Took some limbs of our river birch and one from one of our crap mertal but other than that we survived. One of my dogs pissed on the floor, he doesn't like thunder. Hope u make it thru okay KD w/o sacrificing too many of ur freedoms.

We got our first real good rain storm over the last 24 on Van. Island. We only lost power for 2/3 of a second during the whole episode. We were lucky this time since we are on the butt end of a sketchy grid. I may have to shelve my rock hounding habbits in favor of my mushroom forraging habbits for the rest of the season. Chantrelle & pine mushrooms are just around the corner!

Yeah KD I was gonna warn you that storm was a coming- But the power flickers (never really lost it completly) played hell with the phones at work and I spent the morning trying to get us back up and running- We had some pretty hefty winds (the news said we had a few 65 MPH gusts) and we lost our glass topped picnic table at home (hell the thing was 10 years old and had survived having over 6 feet of snow on it- but the wind tossed it to the patio blocks and she just shattered).

I'm sorry Stefan, that sucks! KD sorry you had to endure that, glad it's all fixed now. Let's hope that's not a preview of winter storms.

i guess i feel kinda wimpy complaining after the really horrific stories of the hurricane tragedies...but you really don'r know how much you rely on electricity until you don't have it for any length of time. i can't imagine how those poor folks in the Gulf dealt with not just the lack of electric but of All Things Civilised.
it got chilly in here last night (55 degrees F) but i had a clean bed and blankets, candles and roof over my head. and i was able to drive into town to get a bag of ice for the fridge and a cup of coffee.
it still didn't make me any less grateful to see the Men In Trucks come and fix my sense of normalcy.
(don't it always, seem to go that you don't know what yougot til it's gone?
pave paradise and put up a parking lot...)
