Just paid a little over $100.00 today to get my computer cleaned. I have Norton antivirus but it didn't stop the ones that got thou. I new I had one that I couldn't get rid of so I called in help. The guy got here and found 33 viruses on my computer that Norton didn't stop. I found this very interesting so I thought I'd pas along the info. The guy said that as new viruses are created, it takes Norton time to name and post these before the Norton user can get protection.

I use Trend PCCillin and Lavaa Soft's AdWare...between the two of them I've been virus free for over 2 years. Both are available for free...Trend you do have to pay for after 30 days free trial, but its well worth it.

I am in the same boat with mine. I have JS.Scob I have to remove. Most of the viruses have common threads, with XP, you have to disable system restore and then run the scan. Otherwise, the 'puter replaces the virus with the virus when the scan is over. In most cases, once the viruses are removed completely, Norton seems to stop them, or at least most of them. It is frustrating however.

Here's a URL with lots of useful info. www.download.com/Spyware-Center/2001-2023_4-0.html?tag=fea_gifI use Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and it has been good so far, but BE CAREFUL there is another virus that imitates this program. Just be safe and download them from reputable sites like the one I linked you to. There's tons of good stuff here. Keep frequenting the site and get the updates on a weekly basis. Just remember, Ad-aware is not an anti-virus program but to be used along with one though it does catch some trojans.
I've had Norton ... waste of $$$ I've had McAfee ... waste of more $$$
I run Grisoft's AVG anti-virus program ... I love it, and it's *FREE*. It's got an awesome email system and since I've been using it I've had no viruses. Get a good firewall and run Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy weekly (both are free).
Most anyone can keep their own computer clean if you take the time and learn a few things. Do a control-alt-delete and see what's running on your computer. If you see a weird name, do a search for it and read up on it. You'll be able to find info on whether it's spyware, a virus, trojan or a part of a program. You will also be able to find info on how to remove if need be.
Check to see if anything new has been installed on your computer. Start - settings - control panel - Add/Remove programs. If you see something your not sure of, do a search on it and find out what it is.
The one thing you shouldn't do unless you really know what you're doing is mess with the registry.

Cher, I love McAfee! Best one I've had so far. I do agree with you when it comes to Norton though.
I use McAfee for Viruses and Spybot for spy ware.
Spyware can slow your system down considerably, and also can also conflict with your other programs to the point where you think you have a virus. All you have to do is get rid of all your spy stuff and your system will run normally again. I run my spybot a couple times a week, and my norm is 270 to get rid of.
Don't get confused between viruses and spy programs. Virus software is used to stop viruses, not spy programs.
