I'm envyous of your little Ginko- mine is about 45 feet tall and drops tons of stinky berries every fall, its an unbelievable mess, smells like kitty poo everytime I go out back, and the mush sticks to your shoes.... yuck!

stoner i love your bonsais. kd what do you mean male or female? here's my ginko - how do you know if it is male of female? mine doesn't drop stinky berries if that helps lol. i'll get another shot when it's in its full golden glory. and here is a chinese or japanese persimmon tree way overladen with fruit. i have a lady that usually comes and gets them to make preserves - she needs to come get them! kim i modified this to add in the pics now that it has changed to full gold kim

wow, great trees, Kim!!!
the female ginkos tend to be less popular in this country as landscaping trees in public areas due to the messy and stinky berry problem, however they are favored in the Far East as the berries or "nuts" are quite tasty when prepared properly.
if your ginko doesn't make and annual mess, it is probably a He tree.

Mine must be a He tree too cuz I don't have any mess to clean up. And while I'm here, I'll put names to the trees. The first pic is a red split leaf japanese maple about 7yrs old, the second one(the tall one) is wisteria about 30yrs old, third is a chinese elm about 30yrs old, fourth is the ginko I dug it out of the ground 4 yrs ago-not sure how old, fourth one is another ginko about 3 yrs old and a liquid amber forest planting about 5yrs old, the fifth is a plum about 35 yrs old and the last is a triple planting of paper birch about 12yrs old. I have to do some root pruning and general clean up on most of them this year so I'll have my hands full.
