Havent been this long without a smoke for 20 years - enough is enough I thought. I know a few of you guys quit aswell - so Im one of you now - theres no going back for me - I simply cannot do it anymore.

You are a stronger person than me! Gratz and good luck! ( I honestly believe its safer for the world that I keep smoking...i.e. take my smokes and coffee and gimme a weapon, I could end all wars or so I'm told )

I'm with you Xena...
I figure there's a lot of people still alive because I smoke!
Plus, look at all the jobs that would be lost if no one smoked - tobacco growers, cig manufacturers, health care professionals, quit smoking ad campaigners, funeral parlors, etc.... the list could go on & on.
Although I did quit smoking once. It was the looooooongest 10 minutes of my life!!! *lol*
Pebbles
PS: I almost forgot - Good Luck to you Mark!!! Actually, I did quit smoking for a 10 yr stretch, but started back up when things got too stressful. I'm such a wimp sometimes.....

I am very happy for your Mark...it is a good thing for you to do. I wish you well and offer my support. I smoked for 30 plus years and quit in Jan of 1990 and have not had a smoke since then. I can happily say I do not miss it either.
Good luck to you on this endeavor...I know you can do it..

I just quit smoking the other 2 months ago, and haven't "jonesed" one bit. Hope it works out for ya Mark, good luck.

way to go, Mark! i, too, was a slave to the Nico-demon for over 30 years, never, NEVER thought i'd be able to quit.....but i DID! just over 5 years now and i feel like such a dunce for smoking as long as i did. smelling so badly for so long and making my friends and family endure it.... and as Cher pointed out, good rock money going up in smoke, not to mention standing outside in the rain, snow, cold huddled over a butt feeling really miserable. hating airplanes and airports, not being able to go longer than a little while without feeling that nasty urge to inhale toxic fumes.... whoa, sorry about the rant! but i'm really glad you are giving this a try. i found a lot of support on this message board when i first quit: www.quitnet.comgood luck to one and all and especially Mark!!!! Good for you Mark....I am happy to say I am smoke free for the last year or two and will never smoke again(unless I somehow make it to age 80) haha!...
I quit and drove my wife to quit thirty years ago and somehow started again about seven years ago, bad mistake, probably took 5-10 years off my life but I think I've got it licked now...although I'm never sure because I still love the smell of a marlboro especially in the morning
Hang in and be healthy ...csroc

Last summer our "gov" stuck a $0.75 per pack "fee" on cigarettes. He's now being sued by the big tobacco companies as part of the agreement when they paid all those big bucks a few years ago was that no additional health fees or taxes could be added to the cost of cigarettes. I hope they burn his arse! Csroc, that first little smell in the morning still leaves you smelling like an ashtray overall. Think rocks man, think rocks, saws, tumblers, rocks .....

Congrats to you Mark, and all the others who have quit. I've never been a smoker, and really never seen what it was about em'! I worked construction for 15 years, and never could understand how someone could smoke when the temps were in the 100's..it just looked like it would make you hotter and thirsty! Anyways, good-luck to you Mark. Spend that moeny on rocks now, and don't look back. It will be worth it. Steve

Guys - I dont want to be a waffler type on this one - ive quit and thats that. Been there seen it done it - smoked in clubs and pubs at work and home for 20 years - got to 70 cigs per day for the last six months or so and Ive had enough. Theres tonnes of "tax" issues too aswell as health. My smokin days are well and truly over. Looking forward to having about 300-400 extra pounds per month to save - (whats that about 700$ or so) its BIG money to me and I think a new kitchen or something is in order). Cheers for the support. Just about 25 hours now - thats the longest in 20 years by a long shot. And surprisingly easy too. Stuff cigs - stuff em Mark.

Hey Mark, congrats! I quit 28 years on father's day as a gift to my kids. I had been smoking three packs of Camels a day for years. That and Pall Mall straights were my favorites. Never cared for filtered cigs. Of course, when I hands were busy I'd chew Red Man or Levi and drink beer at the same time.
No wonder my health is shit!

Mark, if not smoking is your choice, go for it. I hope you make it. Me, I still smoke and do not feel guilty. When the coffin nails got too expensive, I roll my own. The taste is better anyway, no added chemicals. I quit once, for an extended period of time. Almost ten years. I never felt the added benifits from abstenance. It wasn't hard either. I just did not pick up another untill years later. If I go to a non-smoking residence, I go outside to smoke. If a non-smoker comes to my residence, I open a window. With all the non smoking resteraunts arriving as we speak, I go out less often. That saves me money. I honour your choice, and the choices of others. Great luck to you all. Life is good.
