Mark Mark Mark, Please be my inspiration. My husband put the "patch" in my stocking for Xmas and I told him I'm not ready. How do you find the desire NOT to smoke stronger than the the desire to smoke? that's my problem. Pkease PM me on your progresd and maybe e can help each other. I'd like to kick this for good, it' been about 30 years now. Best wishes to you, Mark

Congratulations on all you who quit. I'm doing that struggle right now. I knew it was going to be super hard, but wow, it's even worst than I thought.
Cripes, my Mom has lung cancer right now and I still can't break free of that dam nicotine! How pathetic is that? Too many cheat moments I guess.
Was up to around 3 packs a day this past summer with all the stress going on. Then I really took notice of how I certainly wouldn't mind that money for other things. I've cut way back but know I need to completely quit. Probably the first time in my life I'm really making an attempt at it.
If only I could hang out at the Quitnet board like I do here.

I'm so glad you quit. After watching my beloved stepdad (I Had a non-beloved one too who also died of lung cancer) die of cancer, I am so glad when I hear someone quit. My mother quit after 40 years. She is amazed at how much money she has now. Her reason for quitting? It was icy out and she was out of cigs and didn't want to walk to the store to get more. She hasn't picked em up since. I am so proud of her, and YOU!

We watched my grandmother go through 5 years of throat cancer before it finally got her. Needless to say it was a horrible thing to watch happen to someone you love, and especially the graphic parts. (won't get into the details but you can imagine what the doctors did to her) All of this and there are still people in my family who still haven't given it up after watching her die! Powerful drug... STUFF 'EM MARK!

Mark: Way to go man. They say that man is the smartest animal on earth, but did you ever see a possum walking down the street with a burning weed in its mouth? ::)Think about it. I quit 35 years ago. Best thing I ever did for myself. YOU CAN DO IT. Pete

Wow - loads of encouragement - thanks very much. Congrats to all you ex-smokers too. Cookie - "How do you find the desire NOT to smoke stronger than the the desire to smoke? that's my problem." My desire to smoke was stronger than by desire not to smoke - even if that were still the case, my desire alone would not warrant me doing it to myself any longer. My desire can "shut-it" and go to hell.

I used the pill and the patch, and this March will be five years smoke free! After 28 years of sucking the poison stick!
I have to say I'm really lucky too, two days after starting the last series of patches, I realized that the patches were now making me crave a smoke. So I took off the patch I was wearing, and the rest is HISS-TOE-REE! I've even smoked a cigar a couple times and I found I can do that without craving a cig.
Cigar or pipe smoke doesn't bother me either, but boy, I can smell a cigarette, at 70 mph in the pouring rain with the windows up if someones smoking in a car ahead of me on the freeway! AND I CAN'T STAND THAT SMELL!!!!!
Keep it up Mark, don't give up, use us quitters as a support system! We are here if you need us.
And to those still smoking, QUIT! You have the power, and for every $5.00 you save from not buyin smokes, put it in a jar and use it to:
BUY ROCK SUPPLIES!!!!!!!

Hey Cookie, I'm assuming you work in a smoke free environment so when you walk into the store, grab the collar of your blouse / jacket and take a good strong whiff. There's nothing in the world worse that stale cigarette smoke. Another thing, if you can be honest with yourself. Do not keep the smokes sitting next to you, put them out by the door and if you want a smoke, you have to go outside to do it. Start cleaning out your house of the smell, get some febreeze and spray it around. Oh, and no more smoking in the car on the way to work / home / shopping etc. You have to make it difficult for yourself. Keep trying Cookie, it will work eventually and will be totally worth it, especially if you hubby doesn't smoke. I do understand what you're going through though, I watch my hubby go through it daily. He has no will power at all so I'm trying to accept that he isn't going to quit, it breaks my heart. When I quit, I told him, no more smoking by me so he lives in his own little world, upstairs in his bedroom with fans in two windows, candles and what not, puffing away. While I hate him killing himself, I appreciate his efforts to keep the smell and smoke away from me. He been using the patch but I'm not even going to let him buy anymore, we can't afford him being addicted to both the smokes and the patch. Right now, some of you are scoffing and laughing at what I just told you about my hubby and his addiction to nicotine but don't laugh, anyone still smoking is just as pitiful as he is. You have a monkey on your back, he's got a gorilla.
