Hi all.
Just got back from a sneak preview of the new IMAX movie called Roving Mars. If you are interested in NASA type stuff I highly recommend it. And if you've never been to an IMAX movie before, all I can say is wow! That was the first time I had seen one and is really cool. It opens on Friday.

Hi Ed, I am going on friday if I am feeling better. I have been guled to the rovers website since they landed on mars. I have been looking at the recent pictures from spirit and there is a house sized rock in the distance. I hope they dont bypass this one as it would be really cool too see it up close. Here is a photo of it. Tony

Hey Tony.
If you've been glued to the website, then you NEED to see this movie. Get there early so you can get a seat near the top. We were in the second row down in front and although it was still good viewing, the upper rows are much better. Hope you can make it.

I follow the rovers pretty religiously too. I bet most of us would kill for one of those R.A.T.'s

The R.A.T. makes short order of getting through the surface of the rocks. And I don't even think it was a diamond instrument, they didn't really say. But yea, it looked pretty impressive.

Hey Stoner, Neph, and LCARS, I'm in the club too! I must have single-handedly accounted for about 1 million of those hits on the rover websites. I only check them out every week or so now because they don't update the info. very often anymore, but in the first couple months I'd logon dozens of times per day... I even got so impatient about the info not being updated more often that I wrote a nasty letter to NASA... whew, I need to relax! (they never replied . Anyway, there are two IMAX theatres in town here, so I will definitely have to check the schedules and see the movie. Thanks for the tip!

yeah we loved it too. I think we'll have to check out when it is playing here. Maybe call the niece and nephews and make it an IMAX weekend.

When it comes to roller coasters, I've always said, "If I wanna get sick, I'll drink a 5th of whiskey". There are times in the Rover movie when I felt like the seats were moving.

I have a weird reaction to seeing movies anyway. Wife has a theory that it has to do with my brain trying to fill in the extra FPS that I am used to seeing watching tv. On tv, you get many more frames per second than you do seeing a movie. So when we go to movies, I almost always end up with a killer headache. It doesn't matter where we sit or what kind of movie it is. I get a headache. We saw the Cirque Show at IMAX (history of man?) and it made me ill.
On another note, have you gotten 3-D glasses and visited the site that has 3-D images of the mars stuff? THAT is TRIPPY!

the first IMAX i ever saw was in Arizona at the Grand Canyon, hubby, me and father-in-law were SO impressed with the production and awe inspiring experience that we booked the evening show (was a space shuttle one). we had dinner with a few glasses of wine while waiting for the show....bad move! i got "space sick" hovering weightlessly over the globe.....almost lost it...
didn't stop us from watching IMAX whereever we find one, tho, the Air and Space Museum in DC has a good selection. can't wait for the Mars one! there is an IMAX about an hour west of us! good to know there are some other space nuts out there!
