after 30 years, the civil rights bill extending protections to the LGBT community passed today. The governor has already said she would sign it. We are going to a BIG party at the Paramount to celebrate this historic event!

ken hutcherson and tim eyman have promised an initiative to try and overturn this law. I predict it will fail miserably. The decision on equal marriage rights is expected before march.

Someday everyone really might be equal, but it won't be in my lifetime.

Tim Eyman needs to go back to getting the bills he already got through to actually work. Gregoire swears she will not let it be overturned.

Sounds like Washington State is bucking the trend these days...takes quite a bit of courage for our Legislators and Judges and Politicians to acknowledge people who are cut from a different side of the same cloth. csroc

Too bad we have to make laws to assure equality. It would be nice if there was only one, and it said:
"Everybodys equal, act accordingly"

ahhh in a perfect world, ritchie. In a perfect world...
And this bill isn't going to stop discrimination. No one is pollyanna-ish enough to think driscrimination is no longer a problem in Washington. But it gives those of us who have been discriminated against some legal recourse.
Washington is now the 6th state to recognize gender identity and expression in their non-discrimination act. That is HUGE. Because as much discrimination as is experienced by gays and lesbians, it is so much worse for those who are differently-gendered.
