Motels and hotels are enjoying the much extra profit this weekend. I heard on the news that motels and hotels are charging up to 3-4 times more for their rooms than usual. Plus they are mandating a 4-night stay to get the room. When they do that to the gas prices, othe state government hollers. But I guess it must be all right for other businesses to do it. Outside that and commercials, are there anything else that prices are abnormally high around this big event?

I live in between Detroit & Detroit Metro Airport - a fun place to be at this time!!!
Of course, gas prices at the pump had to make a big jump this past week. Heck, there's one station right across from the airport that stays at least .10 per gallon above everyone else every day of the year! Great for those people that have to fill up their rental cars before turning them in.
I'm sure there's a gouging on the price for parking, too. We very rarely go to the "Big D", as they like to call it around here. Just passing thru is all we do. Parking anyways in downtown Detroit is always a nightmare & I can't imagine even attempting it today. Plus, we did get some snow last night, which I'm sure just added to everyone's fun.
I heard some local food joints are having some Super Bowl buffet specials going on - only $75 per person. Now that's a deal!
I'm sure that if there's a way to gouge the unsuspecting visitors, they are doing it! It's the American way, ya know. Of course, with all the drinking going on, I'm sure not too many will notice - until they get their credit card statements next month.
I'll just be glad when it's all over so we can get back to "normal" around here. "Normal" is scary enough as it is......

the same thing happens here during hockey season I'm live just far enough not to enjoy these wonderful price gouging specials. But if you're a tourist and don't know where to go, you're stuck paying all these ridiculous prices.
Pebbles, the gas station next to out airport also charges 10 cents per liter more then any anywhere else too. I think it's the same anywhere.

Alice -
It's amazing that those gas stations stay in business, but there is always someone there buying their gasoline from them. The people who stop there are most likely the ones with the work/gas expense accounts and so they don't really care what the price is.

Gosh, I knew the answers to your questions once, but I've forgotten it already. Prolly wasn't too important or I'm sure I would have remembered.
