I've been doing a little whining lately, not much but a little. You see I've got this problem with my fingers, the tips of them are tingly numb like when your arm falls asleep and it's coming out at the pins and needles stage. The reason I was whining is because it's terribly irritating when typing or trying to make pendants (requires pushing wire with fingertips). Anyway, I was reading through some info on my chemo and found it's a side effect. OH POO! It can last several months after the last treatment. Ok that's why I was whining but no more! It seems like I have my own miracle network, something special always happens when I'm a bit down, I've gotten cards and little crafts that put a smile on my face, someone always seems to know when it's needed. Today it was a gal from my violet forum who managed to reach out and touch me. Last month she was in a race for cancer and had collected about $3,000 that would go to cancer research. Her son had lymphoma like the kind I'm dealing with. She included me on here "team" as she raced wearing purple ribbons honoring her son, me and several others. Today I received a package in the mail that included my ribbon, pinned to a postcard picture of the racers and her medal for finishing the race. Needless to say I cried. I want to thank everyone again who has been so good to me during the past few months. I can't help but win with support like this, you all are angels in my book. Cher

Not only are rock people cool, but even flower people are cool. Thats really nice, Cher. If your side effects would have happened a few months ago, I would have sent you alittle something green for it. But I don't do that stuff anymore.

My god woman...not only do you not whine, you're downright cheerful. Get better soon. It's no fun slappying a sicky.

Hey Cher -
It's obvious from your attitude that you are facing this challenge with tremendous bravery. I'm inspired by people like you who somehow manage to keep a positive attitude throughout the hardships.
I've been feeling a little beat up lately.... lost my father last Sept. and my wife's disability has almost completely immobilized her (we're getting surgery this year...Yah!).
I sometimes lose my temper for no good reason but I'm working on reacting to those situations differently now. Just want to let you know that I'm sincere when I tell you that you are in my prayers and thoughts. I know that you're going to get through this challenge.
Thanks for being who you are Cher....Keep it up!!

WOW, what a package! I think I'd break down and cry too
Hope you get this whole thing licked soon Cher. Alice
P.S. I'm surprised that the numb fingers thing is a side efect of Chemo. Does it slow down your blood circulation?
I get numb fingers like that a lot (especially one particular finger which gets 1/2 numb length wise... those pins and needles and "I can't feel anything" really bugs me) and was told it was a criculation problem, and not much can be done about it, other then taking drugs (Which I won't do)
Just my thumbs used to go numb whenever I'd get Migranes (I don't get them as often anymore... thank God)

awww how sweet. BTW cher, I was on meds when a dr thought i was bipolar. I am not bipolar but that is another situation. Well, the meds made my fingers tremble so bad, I couldn't type. I also have an old injury from a car accident that compresses one of the disks in my neck and often get tingly fingers.
Not do green stuff? *boggle* Actually, I havent in a long time either.

Thanks everyone but it's true. You guys don't even realize what you do but that's just because the people on this group are such caring people. It's basically a way of life for you, being nice to others, and people just accept it. But, there's certain circumstances, like my cancer, that can make a person feel lonely and weird like we have leprosy or something. That's when your little common everyday niceties really touch home and heart. You all deserve a big hug and an "Atta Girl / Boy" too. WOW, what a package! I think I'd break down and cry too Hope you get this whole thing licked soon Cher. Alice P.S. I'm surprised that the numb fingers thing is a side efect of Chemo. Does it slow down your blood circulation? I wrote to another gal who is a four year breast cancer survivor and she told me I need to tell my doctor about it, even if it is a recognized side effect. It can get to the point that it's irreversible. It sounds to me like you have Reynauds Disease. When your fingers go numb do they turn grey like all the blood has been sucked out of them? Does cold trigger it? My sister has this and there really isn't anything that can be done except if you smoke ... STOP right now as it does affect your circulatory system.

no, mine don't turn grey or anything. Like you it's just the tips except for the one finger where it's 1/2 a finger (ring finger) and it happens length wise. No, cold or warm doesn't hurt... Warm actually helps it, and it feels nice I don't have any diseases (I've been checked)... just poor circulation at times. It doesn't happen ALL the time,... maybe once a month when my Aunt Flow is just about to vist

Cher- Damn- tingly fingers suck- my wifes Grandfather had the same thing- got to the point he was having trouble telling temperature and pressure- It did go away after the Chemo- well he just got back his test results (6 month checkup)- not good as his liver seems to be acting up again (CANCER SUCKS!!!) He is not worried about the laser treatment and the following CHemo (or wait it is the other way around- Chemo then the Laser) But the dang tingly fingers!!! God love the man-- Hang in there Cher- Tell the doctor- keep flexing those fingers (that is what he has to do) and watch for the cold- You can become very suseptible to frostbite!!! Your in my prayers!!!

Oh Stefan I'm so sorry about your wife's Grandpa, I hope everything works out ok. Are they sure it's cancer coming back? I never even thought of any thing like being extra suseptible to cold or hot. So far I've got plenty of feeling in my finger, I don't even notice the tingling until I touch them, like on the keyboard or something.

Hey Cher, it's too early in the year for a "whine festival", but that's ok, we understand. Just beat this crap and get back to being healthy soon, we're all here for your support.

just take the H out of there and have a wine festival instead. Much tastier.
Seriously cher, a whine now and then is good to get all that frustration and overwhelmedness (my word) out of your system. I don't think any of us would hold it against you.

I hope they are able to do that, there are plenty of cases where it has been cured completely. Keep praying is good and keeping Grandpa's spirits up is even better.
