we had windspeeds in the 60 to 80 mph range today ::)some areas reported over 95!
we had been without power for over 8 hours and it was getting COLD! couldn't get the generator to start, so we had to crank up the wood stove to keep the pipes from freezing....
but it all came back to life, thank the stars, and all is right with our world again!!

You need a computer chair with pedals that generate enough power to run the computer so you can get to RTH even when the power is out.

kd i was just wondering how y'all were doing. they are saying such horrible stuff on the weather channel for just about everywhere but florida. they are scaring us every few minutes with ice storm warnings. we are all still suffering from post traumatic ice storm from 1994. i don't even know if we have gas for heat if the power goes out. i guess we'll find out soon enough lol.

OMG KD I'm glad you're ok and got your power back. Thank goodness you have a wood stove for back up heat. That's something that always worries me here, we have no backup heat at all. Hubby's wondering if any of your snow melted that you got last week.

Happy you're back KD! We had a nasty windstorm over here too (Actually, it's still very windy), People's garbage was literally rolling uphill on the street (full garbage cans and large green garbage bags), it was quite a sight!
Our power outages lasted only for a few seconds each though. Not as long as yours. Good to hear you were able to keep warm.
Cher, we currently heat with oil, but once in a while the furnace goes out and the place is freezing cold. I have a box of those hand warmers for emergencies (the kind you shake and they heat up for 8+ hours). they do wonders! Wouldn't hurt to get yourselves a few of those packages, just in case (Mine are from the dollar store). Stick them in your socks, in your pockets, bra strap for your shoulders and you're warm for 8+ hours! But be sure you put a face cloth or something under it. They are VERY HOT and you don't want the package up against bare skin.

Let's hope this is the ONLY winter blast this year. After all, it's February, supposed to be getting nice now, not colder. Alice that's a good idea for a little extra warmth but if our power went out, I'd head for the nearest neighbor or my parents to sit by their woodstove.

Glad you're back KD...We had some wicked weather here too, and thank the powers of forethought that we had the huge old rotten tree in front of our house taken down. Glad you're safe and warm again. A guy was killed in MA when a tree fell on his truck while he was driving down the street...now what are the odds of that!

This storm was a real bear...I have been lucky for the last few years to have no or minor power outages here in Massachusetts. This storm was much fiercer in Southern NH and further North. Montreal and Quebec sure got into the deep freeze on this one...Glad everyone is safe
a couple of years ago I got a gas fireplace insert for my family room...It works when the power is out without its electric blower of course...we hate to use it too much because of the price of propane(we don't have natural gas in my neighborhood)... It has been around $3.00/ 3.50 per (cubic foot I think).

there are still some folks to the east of us that are STILL out of heat/power....we lost a few big pine trees in front, lots of clean up for the spring. after the mess this past summer i feel like freaking Chicken Little when the wind blows. when Niagara Mowhawk still controlled the power in these parts, they at east kept a phone message so people could call in and get updates, now that it is a British company (National Grid) all people get is a busy signal!!!! and they want to subcontract major Port Authority to an Arab country? ?? who is at the WHEEL here? DUH? ...and homeland security didn't think that was a problem? there are times i am very scared. KD

Alice, not sure if you're talking about the same pileup as ours, but we had one here too with about 60 cars ont he 50 and many are dead - big squalls of snow blinded everyone... like those sand squalls they have in the desert, one minute you can see the next second you're alone in this sand/snow loneliness

Nope, not the same Accident Tweetie. The one that happened here was on HWY 440 near Montreal North / Laval The train that just left dangling was on the Mercier bridge (they were all empty cars, thankfully!)
Not sure which school who's roof blew off though.
