anythings possible. Earth is Billions of years old... Aliens send out a probe which takes many years to get here. Signals get sent out and reach their planet to let them know there is alien life on Earth. From what they see there is nothing to fear, so they jump into their ships and head to earth. 50+++ years goes by, and they finally reach earth, only to find out that we've evolved from being a cave man to high powered, primitive high tech wanna-be's who are chemically imbalanced, that not only like to bomb each other, but have no respect toward earth, and are killing it slowly. We are not only paranoid of different life forms that we never have seen (especially those who seem to be of a higher race... they may take over earth... What will happen to George bush's position? : , They will do anything possible for them to stay out of our way by capturing them. Even if the Alien's intentions are for the good, or just passing by.

The real answer is in "The Mothman Prophecies."

My theory: Did you ever see a plane at night or a jet, or even during the day, or what you think is a commercial aircraft and it was moving strangely and just dismissed it because it had the "traditional" blinky lights? I've seen that here in the Pines many MANY times. If aliens are smart enough to travel at light speed, they sure as heck are smart enough to figure out how to make little lights flash to make themselves look like commercial aircraft.
I've seen some weird things, sometimes they come pretty close and fly over head making a hissing sound, kinda looks like a jet at first but it then will hover directly over you, like a burning ball of light. This happened to my husband and I about 6 years ago while we were working on our boat in our driveway. I don't like going outside at night because of this, and I never look up at the sky at night round here anymore... Marian

I beleive that life - in all it's forms - is essentially 'programmed' to find a foothold anywhere it can and begin the process of 'tera-forming'. It's like a compressed computer program that self extracts when the conditions are remotely hospitable. If the conditions aren't right then life 'hibernates' until the conditions are better. If my 'theory' is accurate then life exists everywhere in the universe just waiting to emerge. Interesting theory. If I understand you correctly, you are suggesting that life exists in a dormant form everywhere, and that once conditions exist that are capable of supporting life, then life will inevitably emerge. I don't recall seeing this anywhere else, at least not in this form -- interesting idea! In the Drake equation to calculate the number of advanced lifeforms in our own galaxy that are trying to communicate with us, this would seem to fall under the "f 1" factor -- "the fraction of planets with conditions suitable for life on which life actually develops". A value of 1 for this factor (as you seem to suggest) certainly supports the idea of advanced alien life. I think your theory is testable when we get better (but not wildly better) at exploring our own solar system. There may be environments on Mars that are now or were in the past capable of supporting life, and it would seem that the sub-ice ocean on Europa would both be places where life might evolve and even exist to this day, so those would be good test cases for your idea.

I did hear about the Mothman growing up, it was intertwined with stories of the Jersey Devil. Let's just hope we don't see the Mothman in our liftimes... Brrrrr I'm all creeped out lol! Marian

Who's the Mothman? Sounds like one of Batman's evil doers. Haven't heard of the Jersey Devil either, are these human or swampdevils?

I really find this thread funny- We earthlings are sooo egocentric as to believe that aliens would even care a bit about us or a measly planet- Sorry folks but we are nothing more than a mere raindrop in an ocean of life!!!!!

Rollingstone -
Have to agree with you regarding humanity's ego...I too believe that if we are being visited by 'ETs' they wouldn't give a flip if we knew or not. OR...they're checking on our progress after 'Uplifting' our species from a branch of our simian cousins....ever read David Brinn?
Here's some of the reasoning behind my 'extraction' thoery... Okay...DNA...is basically just code consisting of 4 values...a programming language so to speak...'In the beginning was the word....and the word became life' ...interesting huh? Life manifested from language... Say the word and it shall be so....
Just like a computer program can be compressed...so too can the language of life....with lots of 'If; then'...commands. But i also believe that ALL life is in constant communication at the cellular level by means of Bio-Photon activity...coherent light just below the visible light spectrum emitted by DNA...this 'light' is used for communication and data storage...just like binary language...photons exist in an up or down state (on or off) and can become 'entangled'...when 2 photons become entagled, what happens to one, happens to the other no matter what the distance between.
Yep...I'm rambling....sorry 'bout that...Anyway I guess that my point is that we don't know....but the truth is more mind boggling than any of us can imagine.
ETs are people too!

The strangest thing I ever saw was strange colorful lightning. Instead of the usual odd white lightning bolt striking down vertically towards earth, I saw continuous colorful lightning bolts were going horizontally across the sky (all colors of the rainbow). It was so hypnotic that I stayed up for HOURS just watching the sky. There was one spot in the clouds that had an odd orange glow that just wasn't moving among all the lightning, and all of a sudden it just zoomed off like a bullet. A UFO? maybe. But more then likely just an odd electrical storm.

There's nothing I like more than sitting outside on a summers night and watching the sky for floaters. That's what we always called them, my husband calls them satelites, I tell him it's a ufo because he can't prove to me what they are. The most I ever counted was 39 in one evening, traveling in all directions. Two of them looked like they were going to collide then suddenly the swerved, each making a 90° angle to the direction it had been traveling. They just look like very bright stars but man they sure can move.

cool cher- Best I ever saw was three Floaters flying in triangular formation- Very slowly (slower than an aircraft) then accelerating to a mind boggling speed (they literally dissappeared in a blink!) never seen any swerve!

We have one really great place to watch them, out in the middle of the lake laying on the pontoon boat. No lights, nothing but mosquitos trying to eat you alive but man, you never saw stars like that in your life. It's amazing what getting away from the lights of town can do.

THat is why I love camping sooo much!!! No lights- just the crackle of a warm fire and the grand ole universe to spy on- I really like the lake idea- sept that I am a water chicken- I can do boats in the day time- but come dusk- I gotta be on dry land!!!!

It's a small lake that I've been on since I was about seven so it's home to me. You won't get me out on the big lakes even during the day, I just don't like them. I'll never get to go on a cruise cause if I can't see land, you might as well bury me.

Cher - get out on to the big lake - its not that big really Ohno - this thread went on ages - i only surmised about the sightings and recordings ratios initially - I think that the rock tumbler (in person) has the brain power to suss the alien thing out in the long run - its going to be tricky for sure!!!! Hey - maybe everyone else (ie those that dont appreciate earth and its constituent materials) - are the ones in the cold? Cos they dont look close enough?

Hey - maybe everyone else (ie those that dont appreciate earth and its constituent materials) - are the ones in the cold? Cos they dont look close enough? Hi Mark, I'm ok as long as I can see shore. I'm not a fish, I need land to walk on, when I can't see land, I panic. Must be the rocks! *smile* I think you're probably right about the ones that don't look close enough, kind of follows in with the phrase "stop and smell the roses". The world is passing them by and they don't even know it. LOL They wouldn't know if they'd been probed or not.

Mothman is important. Not because of the Mothman himself (itself?) but because of the theory about him. It's all in "The Mothman Prophecies." It's kind of a unified field theory of the paranormal.
