So they are "Christians" cheering for the dead? What kind of backwards thinking is that? These bikers are saints!

IMESHO, there is nothing "Christian" in this mockery. Protesting at any funeral is simply wrong, but for such a flimsy hair brained excuse? Mr. Phelps and his pathetic family/church had best be careful, the Karmic Wheel can be a right royal bitch on the way down! *evil grin* I truly hope there are no homosexuals in his sorry family, that would be a living hell...
Good for the bikers! May the roads be good to them!

I had some extra space one month on the American Legion newsletter I do so I go and search the National American Legion website, that was where I found out about the Patriot Guard. A soldier in Iraq had read about them in Stars and Stripes and wrote in to the legion about them. It's about time that someone stood up to that moron Phelps and let him know they aren't going to ruin the funerals of our fallen heroes. I don't understand how any of the church leaders can support what this man is doing in the name of God. It appears to me that he is more of a cult leader and has the people following him to the point they can't think for themselves. Here's their website The Patriot Guard, they are very serious about what they do and I think they are awesome.

Cher- It is a sad sad statement that the very funerals for our heros that Phelps is protesting at- are happening so that he can protest (does that make sense?) So basically he is excercising his right to protest- against the very people that have given him the right- gosh I sure hope he does not stubble in front of one of those bikes- Would be a shame to have to run him over (again and again and again and again) All I can say is GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

This is the point where I think the right to protest is carried a little too far. If you can't have the right to bury your loved one in peace, it's ridiculous. There ought to be a law to protect that right.

I agree but it is their right- We knew (and I stress knew) some local yahoos who went to protest at an abortion clinic- well the guy was arrested (he broke some kind of protest law and his wife was livid!!!!! Actually attacked a police officer (and got arrested too!!!) they still claim that they were practicing their rights- It is sad really as the "clinic" they were protesting did not even provide abortion services- and the poor girls they were harassing were just un-wed mothers in for clinical services- But yes it is really too bad that a family can not bury their dead without this kind of treatment!!!! Nothing is sacred

The thing is, there shouldn't have to be a law. Common human decency should dictate that grieving families are allowed to bury their dead in peace. You can't legislate decency. This whole thing is just so sad. I weep for this world.

Here's a good straight article that really tells about this Phelps and what he's doing. What I don't understand is how he's managed to get so many people in other states to join his moronic ideas and start protesting like this. Someone ought to put him out of our misery. He hasn't really. His "congregation" consists almost exclusively of family members.
I was introduced to the phelps clan when I was fresh out of the closet and at my first March on Washington way back in 1987. They were there with their classic "God hates fags" and "Thank God for AIDS". I agree with Greenmann, karma is gonna be a BITCH for him.
Oh, google "Addicted to hate" and phelps. It is a FASCINATING read of the man and his mission. There have been some family members who have managed to escape and gave up the dirt.

While I'm for seeing Phelps kept at a safe distance by any legal means - including new legal means, it is a little bittersweet that this guard and all these laws did not form 20 years ago in 1985 when Phelps was terrorizing parents trying to bury their gay children.

OMG...really? I had no idea he'd been around that long. How awful...it makes me sick to think about it.

Yup. They've been around that long. That's why I am soooo familiar with his clan, I guess. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when he meets his Maker because he is gonna have ALOT of splainin' to do.

i am flabbergasted...all the families should bring a civil suit on this guy and all his family...defamation, harrassment, what a little black soul he must have.
i suppose it doesn't surprise me (although i had no idea he'd been up to this for so long), if the KKK can still demonstrate (with a proper permit) and the Nazi Party can still march (also with proper permits), then all the Gay parades are just a balance in this "free" society?
but this guy crosses the line invading service peoples funerals. ain't right.
my 2 cents, KD

I'll bet that he won't pull this crap in Virginia Beach or Norfolk, we're 90 percent military. He'd end up dead. To die for your country is the highest honor and an honor taken very seriously around here. I wonder what good this clown has ever did anyone in his entire insignificant life?

Just a few days ago some of Phelp's minions where raising hell at the funeral for a soldier here. One of them accausted the mother face to face as she was walking to the church. They told her that her son was in hell because of her and this countries tollerance for gays and that she would be joining him there. It was all caught on camera and was on the evening news. The Minnesota legislature amediatly conviened to create a law stating that no protests can take place within 600 feet of a funeral procesion. I hate to see any degredation of speech rights but these freaks have made it nessecary.
This group travels around the country condemning souls to hell. Though they can't see it, it's obvious who they realy follow. They just couldn't be any more backwards.
