Anyone know for sure? I tell ya what, if this is what I have to look forward to...I'm just not gonna have it! *let's see Xena pull THAT off*
As you all know, I have no insurance and am the only financial support of my household. My partner says that the tumbler makes her headaches worse. Even if we could afford to go to the doctor, she wouldn't.
I have tried everything I can think of short of poking her eardrums out so the sound won't bother her.
Do I just give up tumbling? What should I do ya'll?
I mean its not fair to her to have to listen to a noise that makes her batty all the time.
It's not fair to me to not get to do something I enjoy just because it irritates my partner.
There is no place to put the tumbler other than where it is.
Please tell me what I should do.

do you have a garage space or something where you can plug the tumblers in Xena? Or even a locker space in the basement somewhere?

Hmmm...I've no idea how long it lasts but what if you created a box to cover the tumbler that has some soundproofing materials in it?

I know this may be out there, but do you have any friends close who have a space you might use? Terry

The box wouldn't work because of the heat, tried that already. Only friend I could leave it with runs off a generator, bare basics. Guess I'll just have to wait and hope

I guess finding a new place is out of the question?
how about in a closet and padding the door from the inside?

What if you hooked up a fan? I am thinking like, a case fan from a computer. What if you suggested some sort of compromise where you get to run it for two weeks (which would be almost enough for any step) and then give her a break of a week or two off? It doesn't seem fair that she doesn't want you to run it at all.
If we were closer I'd say yeah, find yourself an outlet in the garage. But I doubt you wanna trek some 70 miles whenever you wanted to check your rocks.

I hate to tell you Xena, menopause can last way lots longer than you even want to hear about. You shouldn't have to give up something you enjoy so you're both going to have to compromise. Being that you're the one who goes to work, you need an outlet that's something you enjoy, there's just got to be a way to make it tolerable for all involved.

The trick is to use white noise to mask the db. of the tumbler. Unless there is something else going on, play lots of Emerson Lake and Palmer. Definately Brain Salad Surgery, and Karnevil 9. It is good for the soul. Gets the juices flowing. Then hyperventilate a lot, painting a dot on the lid and watch it while the ears are ringing. That is a lot of fun. Kinda like putting raisins in seltzer water. Instant Lava Lamp! Yeah, politically correct also, no electricity and supports farmers who exploit workers. My idea, anyway.

i'm kind of leaning toward the poking her eardrums out . poke some earplugs in there! compromise by running it 12 hrs a day. let her pick which 12 she wants it off. and if she can't take the 12 hrs when it is running she needs to go find something to do during that time - job, volunteer, take a walk, put some headphones on......and if she won't agree to that then the only one compromising is you. and tell her you don't feel like compromising anymore cause she's not playing fair! kim

Thanks ya'll....I'm thinking since I'm here at work 10.5 hours a day minimum I'll just bring the dang thing in here and truck it home at night unless Spaceman is working. He doesn't mind the noise. So thats like 4 days a week 10.5 hours a day and 2 days a week 24 hours a day. That should work!

You mean rocks tumbling isn't considered white noise?
Really, even taking the tumbler to work doesn't solve the problem of her pulling all the strings. And dear, if she doesn't let you pull a string now and then, well, I fear your relationship could be heading for rocky times (and not the good rocky). Been through it enough to know that every once in awhile YOU need to win. Otherwise the resentments form and start seeping in and before you know it, crappy relationship.
Once I learned to let my wife pull a string now and then, we're stronger than ever. We celebrate 11 years in May. I think sometimes, the only reason we lasted this long was she is more stubborn than me. And yeah, if she doesn't get her hormones, she goes thru a pseudo-menopause. I am going thru the beginning stages of the real thing myself. Every once in awhile I get one of those telltale hot flashes and off go the clothes. I wonder if my increase in headaches and increased noise sensitivity is that or just the chronic neck issues cropping up. Regardless, I have some pain pills for when it gets too bad.
