What can I say? Guilty as charged..........even my ferret wanted to be on my lap or sleep with me when I had her. I wonder if my Jack Dempsey would like to climb up as well?

My dog was only allowed in the bed - no other furniture. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't even do that. To each their own.

I own a pug dog, they don't listen to any command. Dogs stairs or not they will be on the furniture or bed, its just no use !

Guilty, but not quite to that extent. And it wasn't exactly planned, it just sort of happened.
Even with his arthritis I wouldn't consider purchasing steps to help him onto the loveseat or my bed. Granted, they'd have to be made of wood if they were going to stand up to him walking up them! Now into a vehicle or the popup trailer or camper...

my dogs weigh around 115# each. We have a queen bed. Needless to say, they do NOT sleep on the bed, but rathe ron either side of it. My Lord and Master, on the other hand, sleeps at the foot of the bed and his brother sleeps on the little bench on the end of our bed.

the price of those steps just make me shake my head. I can understand how people would like their pets up on the bed, or wherever, but can't people just buy those steps they sell at the dollar store (made for kids) if they really need something like that?

Lots of smaller pets (especially cats, but dogs too - e.g., lap dog) are allowed on the sofa or bed. And when they get old the steps can help prevent injury.
At 2 for $40, and I not sure they are that expensive. A step ladder at the home depot may cost almost as much, look less attractive, and even have undesirable wheels.
My cats have always enjoyed jumping up on top of my 19" monitor. It is warm, and they can watch me post (, er uhm .. work). Recently I have seem my oldest male hesitate before leaping up, and on several occasions have to make a 2nd try after a false start. He even had one fall when he slipped and cam sprawling down on the keyboard and mouse. I am considering placing a small file box next to the monitor to act as a step. I felt so bad when I saw him fall while trying to do something he always liked to do. Maybe my own prematurely aged and creaky bones were emphasizing a bit.

I saw a setup in a mag to help a dog get into a truck. I am seriously considering that since my lab has some arthritis in his elbow and usually limps around on 3 legs (especially if there is a treat to be had). He got hit by 2 cars when he was a pup and got freaked by some fireworks on July 4. He jumped the fence and was about 12 miles away when this guy on a bike thought it would be a great idea to scare the dog sitting patiently at the light. He revved his engine and off galileo went, into traffic.
These concerned citizens saw the whole thing, followed gali and called animal services and made them swear they wouldn't put him to sleep. They took him to a 24 hr. emergency clinic where we got the call about 10 mins later that our dog was there. Took 4 operations and around $4k but he still has all his legs.
My Lord and Master and his brother are close to 11 years now and I notice them slowing down and thinking a bit before leaping.

Nope, no dogs on the furniture is the rule in my house except my kids' bed. But, does the dog listen..no way. He gets up in the middle of the night and sleeps on the couch. When I get up in the morning and walk out to the front, I can hear him jump off the couch. Today, it was raining, so when my wife left to do errands, she comes back and finds these circles on our bed. The dog slept on our bed while she was gone!

When I had my shih tzus they each had their own "home" which was their doggy crate. Rule was when the dogs went into their homes, kids had to leave them alone. They slept in them at night and it was so nice if we went somewhere cause they always had their space with them.

both my dogs are crate trained- Makes it so easy to take them camping (as they are very secure in the crate homes- no accidents, no anxiety) They do get to run around the house- But furniture is a NO-NO The little one has a size issue- and loves to jump and climb onto everything- I put cardboard pieces on the furniture when he is out (It's funny to watch him jump up and slide off!) Heck I barely let my daughter up on the furniture (LMAO)

The tipping point was not so much when I sat on the couch with them, BUT when I plugged in the electric blanket:

Good God! There is no end to the crap they're trying to hock and make it seem like you are getting such a great deal on. It's all crap you either don't need or could build yourself for a fraction of the cost.
