The gf convinced me to join a gym so she can get back in shape to go back active duty military. I'm hurting in places I didn't know I had!
I mean, I'll be 40 next month, ain't I supposed to be sitting around getting the middle age spread???
On top of that, I must have a huge Karma debt to play, my computer and truck both are about to go TU....oy vey!

You are a good sport and that's what you call friendship. ..joining a gym so she can join the military...this does not compute. Seriously, enjoy it and do it while you still can. I'm 55 and I just joined a gym 2 months ago. I'd been doing very less and less every year for the past 20 years and was finding it hard to do anything. About ten years ago I coached my last youth league teams and stopped playing softball and pickup soccer a couple of years before that. My knees were a mess from racquet sports. I had both of them scoped, the doctors told me they would never take impact so I cannot run but at least I can still walk. I never got back in the groove; the arthritis was making me feel like a cripple, I am weaker than when I was a teenager(well I suppose that isn't surprising)... after a couple of months in the gym 4/5 times a week I'm just starting to feel a little bit better and I'll never let myself be inactive again. csroc

She's ex military and wants to go back in to finish up her 9 years to retirement...but she's gained alot of weight and has to lose inches more so than pounds. Now I know if she has to go to the gym alone she won't go often, and face it, Lesa could use to lose some weight too for health reasons.
So, hopefully I'll be able to quit smoking in the process and feel better and look better too.

HAHAHA!!! It's good for you!
We tried climbing Mt. Si this weekend. It's about 4100 feet up. We made it to 2000 ft and had to call it quits. I will say I did get the endorphin rush. Unfortunately the body was not willing to go much farther so into training we go. Wife has a gym membership thru work and I live across the street from St. Ed's park which has some great trails. So we will try the Si again in a month.
Wanna come? And hey, you have my wholehearted support on the quitting smoking thing.

Xena, I really hope you quit smoking, I feel so much better since I did, only problem is, food tastes so much better so have to watch eating now. Terry

Hawke, try Little Si, its I think about 2/3 the height of the main trail, but still a good treck. My sis and I have done it... its beautiful at hte top! We need to get into better shape before summer for that kind of hiking too, though. So many great trails to try out... and now I'll be looking for rocks too! lol

Hi Z,
I'm right there with ya sis, I need to lose about 30 pounds that I "added" and to top it off I started the smokes again. (my dumb rationale is that I am rolling my own with pure tobacco, no chemicals/additives so they are good for me!)
Hope you two have good luck with the routine, as we all know we feel better when we are healthy, but dog gone it smoking and drinking feel pretty good too! Ugh. We are such fickle creatures.
Peace.

Good for you Xena, go for it but take it slow and easy. Don't know what kind of gym you joined but if it's nautilus, I loved it back when I was doing it, but it was easy to lose the inches back then. If you can quit the smokes, all the better.

Xena Twenty five years ago the Dr. told me he thought I had cancer of the larynx and he wanted to do a biopsy to confirm it. When I woke up and could still talk he explained that my heavy smoking (4 pks a day) just burned it badly. No cancer, yet, but come next year he was sure I would have it. Well that convinced me and I quit on the spot. The moral - you have to be motivated. By the way we as humans think we are the most intelligent animal on the earth, right? But did you ever see a opossum walking in the woods with a burning weed in its mouth? Think about it. Pete

Right Pete, but what if Possums had thumbs and Zippos?
All right, I'm a smart aleck. No, the dumb habit killed my grandmother and I should know better. I HAVE NO EXCUSE!!!

Way to go!!!! But I hope you didn't mean to say that you've had nothing else to eat in days, other than the sunflower seeds! You need to diet smart in order for it to last.......

LOL No JJ, I have a very large sunflower seed habit...as in extra large bag every other day....I have been eating healthy...fish, steamed veggies, fruit etc and lots and lots and lots ( did I say LOTS) of water. Yeah, I HAVE to eat...border line hypoglycemia I think we are on our way to changing our eating habits...smaller portions, less fat.
