I recently had a couple of bug splatters on my windshield but haven't seen any skeeters yet.
A guy I work with got west nile last August. He went into the hospital with an extremely high fever and was in hospital for about 7 days and was off work for a month. Fortunately, he made a full recovery. For awhile it was scary, though. It seems that even here the virus comes from migrating birds because the health dept. doesn't start getting postive hits on dead bird analyses until mid-summer (usually).

It's our state bird too and we have really tough ones here. I saw one before the snow was even off the ground, dang things. Where's the Repel when you need it? According to the Wildlife Disease Information site it's in all "48 continental states, seven Canadian provinces, and throughout Mexico. In addition, WNV activity has been detected in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guadeloupe and El Salvador." Here's the site if anyone is interested. NBII Talk about "this sucks" I just looked at the map and my county is one that has had positive results for it.
