Yeah it's allergy time again. Do the words Allegra, benedryl, or prednisone ring a bell? If you're like me and can't leave the house without a box of Puffs under your arm let me know. I need some commiseration and some nasal steroids!

Benedryl and prednisone ... yup, I use benedryl to get to sleep every night and prednisone is a part of my chemo. I don't really like either one especially the prednisone. I'd like to know what a normal dose of that is for anyone who takes it for allergys.

The best allergy season I've ever had was the summer I managed to get poison ivy three times. So for the majority of the summer I was on my regular Zyrtec and the prednisone to clear up the poison ivy.
I could BREATHE all summer. Of course, I itched most of that summer as well....

Akansan, that sounds terrible!! I take Zyrtec daily and prednisone only when it gets real bad. Like now. With pred. I start at 40~50mg a day for a couple days and then reduce the dose gradually for the next week. I only use prednisone like that a few times a year, mostly in spring. Also if I have a real bad allergy day I'll take about 10mg to get through. I hate prednisone, it works really well but it does horrible things to my moods. I get too edgy and after a few days of pred. I'm not fit to be around people!

Prednisone also causes weight gain though they tell me not to worry about it now. I take 100 mg for 5 days as a part of my chemo treatment, it's one of the ones that make me sick. Tastes horrid too! LOL
