So some of you may remember a photo a few weeks ago of my son playing "water hockey" (thanks Kimi for that monacher!!!) in my basement after my washing machine decided to malfunction.
This weekend they finally got the hardwoods down, baseboard and appliances installed and our lives were close to returning to normal. Well, after the Easter bunny had come and the kids were having fun playing and eating PEEPS, we discovered an odd hissing sound coming from behind the fridge. To our horror, we pulled out the fridge and found water squirting out of the ice maker hose all over the newly laid floor. Once we got the water tuned off and made a complete investigation, we found water had completely soaked thru the flooring and into the basement again.
It appears that the restoration company may have pinched the hose when putting the refer back in it's spot. I'm guessing I'm gonna have a fight on my hands trying to prove it was their fault. The hardwoods will need to be pulled up and will cost a good $1,000 - 2,000 for labor and flooring.
When this whole thing happened a few weeks ago, people told us to take the money and do the work ourselves, but I don't have the time and I just wanted to have a crew come in and have it done in a day or 2. We also thought if something didn't work out right in the future we could go back on the installers for recourse.
Well, I have a feeling that the restoration company will not willingly admit to doing it and I can't prove they did, but we had NO involvement in the restore work and never touched the fridge until it was put back in it's spot.
First thing Monday morning I'll be talking w/ the insurance company to find out where to go from here. I think they will try to issue another claim (at another $500 deductible) and I'll get screwed. I'm gonna fight this one.
Anyway, it's been a real drag having my kitchen tore up for 3 weeks and 4 kids running around. I guess I can get a very small taste for what our friends in Iowa and other areas are going thru right now!
Well, I just had to vent.
