Wow, what happened? In all honesty, that pic looks like something that I'd post, but if I ever post anything that offends anyone please PM me and I'll remove it without question. We have a great group of people here that I'd like to remain a part of.

Ha, ha, this thread has become so ridiculous, it is the funniest thing of all now.
Are folks wearing especially thin skins today? This is the Internet for crying out loud, there are more than 1000 people of all stripes posting here. Do you really think that no posts will offend your personal sensibility? If one (or even 100) people post stuff that offends you, are you really going to throw in the towel on the whole schmeer? Do you apply this "logic" elsewhere in life too? -- If one person offends you at your office, do you quit your job? If one person in your town offends you, do you pack up and move?
I've seen all kinds of stuff on this board that offends me, and I must confess I've even considered running away because of it. Then I asked myself why do I read this board? The answer for me is to learn about rocks and rock tumbling, and hopefully pass on some of what I learn to others. And when I compare where I was two years ago to where I am now in my rock tumbling and knowledge about rocks, it is obvious to me that I never would have learned a fraction of what I've learned without this forum. I now rarely read, and even more rarely reply, to any of the personal posts, as they are not the reason I joined or continue to read this forum.
As for this particular thread, hey, I found the mirror funny, and I could do with one of those magic mirrors myself. For folks who found it offensive, sure challenge the Dog if you want, but quit the board? And same to edog -- some folks were upset by your post so you ran away?, sheesh. If Hermatite and Edog and anyone else want to run away, then go ahead, in a few months no-one will care, and you will have only deprived yourselves of lots of fun and knowledge. Join back up, and ignore each other if that's what you need to do.
As for my rambling post here -- if it has offended anyone, that was not my intention, but I really don't care either. Feel free to flame me to the maximum. I'll just laugh and shrug it off, and I won't go away. ;D

I'll apologize for my part in this, I was offended too. I don't find weight issues funny at all and don't think it's right to make jokes about them but dammit Jimmy (and anyone else), if you're going to post stuff that can be controversial, you've got to be prepared to take the good with the bad. I am very very upset that the two of you deleted your accounts. Shame on you both for making me

Funny how when someone posted a joke extolling the virtues of middle-aged women at the expense of young women and men in general - no one seemed offended by that but me. And boy did I take some crap for pointing that out. Tables get turned and people start deleting accounts. Sounds like a case of can dish it out but can't take it. Well, I though I voiced some concerns similar to yours. Sometimes we don't see the support we do get. ---- More generally, if there had been a joke about a mirror that made both men and women look like the fantasy instead of the usual reality, it would have been more fortunate. On, the other hand, we can reflect on the fact that many of these image concerns do seem to be gendered. I find it interesting to discuss how much of this originates in biology and evolved mating strategies versus how much is overlaid by cultural sexism and/or results from the distribution of resources and power between the sexes. I also find it hard to have such a discussion because the topic can be such a mindfield. I would not try to do it here because here I focus on rocks.

I must have a really warped sense of humor! I thought it was hillarious! I almost fell off my chair laughing and I am an overweight woman. I don't approve of people making fun of overweight people but, earthdog didn't seem as if he was going for that, anyway. It seemed to me that it was late and he was trying to get a little humor going. I never saw this much offense displayed when Jack Black filmed, "Shallow Hal", and that movie was unbelievably funny. I really thought most people on this board had thicker skins than this and knew each other a little better. At least, enough to know that nobody would intentionally hurt each other. No offense to earthdog and Hermatite but, GROW UP and get over it! So what if not everybody likes what you post. earthdog, I love reading your posts...probably because our sense of humor is similar. Whatever....I'm done putting in my two-cents worth, here. Hope you two come to your senses and come back.

If it had been a picture of a man in front of a mirror with, would anyone have been offended? Probably not.
My ass is bigger than that woman's and it didn't bother me a bit. I hope Edog and Herm will take a deep breath and come back.
If not, Bubba you got my email and addy right?

Wow this is a sad thread. I thought it was a funny pic and not offensive at all and I'm not happy with my butt either, now if Earthdog had said "Hey ******, want one of these" and actually targetted someone with this thread it would be a completely different matter but he didn't, its was just a bit of fun. Come on people its not worth deleting accounts over ! I've been in the same boat and have recently taken a break from posting due to a couple of things that bothered me - it really helps to get perspective back, and so I've come back to talk ROCKS and bother everyone again with my dumb rock questions Hope you can resolve this guys and everyone can get back on track

I thought it was funny, but then, I have no ass. When I sit in a chair I slide right on to the floor. Now, there's a pretty visual, randy! LOL! Some skinny, harley riding, down-home, rebel (without a cause?), red neck (?) guy stuck in his patio chair with Deputy Dan trying to pry him out! I guess that means that if I stood in front of you...it would be like you weren't there? OOOh...oooh...I know another one! You could be Jack Sprat and I could play your wife! Apparently, the visual in my head is funnier than reading it! One word of advise to you, randy...don't sit in any folding chairs! ;D Did I offend you? Hope not! I'm only joking around. I can post a pic of myself and we an have a regular roast!

If you look real close at the picture, you will see "no humans were hurt in the process of making this photo".............it's a computer generated photo. It's not a real model! I think they must have used my butt to come up with it......looks just like mine!

Oh Man...E-Dog and Herm, you guys should both come back!!! It's just noyt the same here without you guys.
Jim - You've always been so generous to everyone here and I know that folks here miss you.
Herm - Your input/posts on the board are valued and folks are missing you too!!
You know....people offend each other everyday in big ways and little ways...the trick is to realize that we all offend each other in some way or another and then just find a way to forgive.

Now I've read all the posts, I've seen the joke, and I have to say that the reaction by Herm to Edog is what's sad about this whole thing. Edog did not say "Hey Herm! This one's for you baby!" He posted a picture of something he thought funny. And after reading the posts and seeing the picture I can see others thought it was funny and they also thought that it was something that needed to be posted somewhere else. After Edog found out that this picture offended Herm he should have deleted the post and everyone go on about their business. But, now it's been blown out of proportion with what's right and wrong in the world today. Last night I was in tears, me a 50 year old man,( who's back surgery has disabled him so much so that in less than 5 years I've gained 60 lbs!! I used to play golf to an 8 handicap. I was a Champion Springboard Diver in Highschool and beyond. I served in the USAF and learned that thin skinned people never leave home.) But, back to last night... I read the post about Pete losing his beloved and it struck a deep chord inside me. Hell, I don't even know Dru and Drupe! I thought Drupe was a nickname for someone who has a stomach like mine! But, after reading about the trouble in their lives I went to the member's photographs and looked up Pete's picture. Man! If my twin sisters' husband has a twin on this earth it's Pete! And so Pete's troubles these past few months took on a whole different meaning for me. That and add on to the fact that my father just went through an Aortic bi fem bypass year before last, was diagnosed with possible bladder cancer who's surgery was postponed the morning of because dad went into congestive heart failure! And I just had my "You've turned 50! Here have a colonoscopy!" and waited a week or two to find out that the polyps they took out were benign! Yea!! So, when I see two people having a tiff over some stupid internet photoshopped picture I just have to shake my head a moment and think "Don't they know young men and women are dying over something more perverse and stupid than any damn picture ever posted here?! Now, shake hands. Say you're sorry...BOTH OF YOU! And let's get back to more important things.
