How offen do you use a dressing stick on a blade? Does it really need to be done? Where do you get one? Is using an old grinding wheel a good substitution?

tell i have one that i got from kingsley north and i used it alot. it always helped but the duration of improvement was short lived because i think i had abused the blade pushing the rock too hard. with the new saw i won't be interfering with my pushing so the blade hopefully will do much better ;D.

On my 20" saw I use a red brick. they say because it is soft and when the blade cuts, the cut material rolls on the blade and resharpens the diamonds. Did that make any sense? Also, the feeder motor on my saw is very slow. A rock that is 8" round might take well over an half an hour to cut threw. Good luck. Brett

It also helps to turn your blade around every so often. The diamond gets rounded off slightly so if you turn it around the diamond will have a new face to cut better. Tom

Hello TellFamily, Tom gave you some very good advise I will turn my 14" saw blade every six to nine months or so ... and I do a lot of cutting. I do not use dressing sticks or red bricks, as I rarely ever need to dress my blade. I have found that by turning the blade every so often ... the need to dress the blade is no longer an issue. I have probably cut 50 slabs of rock since Monday ... to give you an idea of how much slabbing I generally do. When the weather warms up ... I will be able to slab even more. Enjoy, John
