This weekend was the 39th annual rendevouz in south western Wi. It is one of the largest in the country. I have been going every year for about the last 9 years. Here are some of the pics I took, along with a couple things I picked up. Takila, where we camped, on 500' bluffs. You can see the Wisconsin river behind her, Takila trying to cook some potatoes before I cook the steaks, Here is how bored I got at our camp site, I let the girls have their way with doing my hair all nice and pretty, Some of the camps at the rendevouz, A couple of the blacksmiths there, Food! Some of the stuff I picked up, all hand made. a pipe, for $35 A Navajo dancing stick for $25 and a real cool looking hunting shaft, the pictures don't do it right. The fur on the top and bottom is mink.

Do you get shooed to the edges of camp if your tent doesn't match? Was there room for the harley in there?

That looks like it was a blast to go to. How long did you stay? Did they have the knife/hatchet throwing contests? I've seen them on tv, very cool. Neat stuff you got too.

Except for the 2 naked guys, it looks like a fun time!!! I thought for a minute it was the Brokeback Mountain Man Rendezvous.

Oh and tell takila- Wrap them taters in foil and toss em INTO the coals- then cook your steaks- I always cook my taters in foil in the coals- Takes about 1/2 hour (maybe 45 mins if the fire is still new) Jeeze I had steak and taters (pan fries with oinions, and garlic pepper) this weekend too!!! Ymmmmm nothing better than open fire cooking!!!!

Was there muzzleloader shooting? No rendevouz could be complete without the smell of burning black powder and the sight of flint striking steel!

No muzzleloaded shooting. They do have a knife and hatchet throwing contest. We camped at the state park about 6 miles away from the rendevouz. I didn't take the harley, we had the kids, it was gonna rain and I took the harley into the shop to get dyno'ed over the weekend. Takila and I are going on a 3 day bike ride this weekend up to Tomah to see the national truch pulls then over to Crandon Wi. to see the CORR trucks race off road, so we should have a 500/600 mile ride for this weekend. Takilas Blazer is broken otherwise we would be dropping in on Cher this weekend.... More pics of this coming weekends events, without kids...

Looks like a great time! It's nice when you can go to parties like that and take the family. Your girls are very cute and I think it's a very cool thing for "dad" to let them do what they want!! (Your one daughter looks like Kirsten Dunst from the side.) All those items are pretty cool that you picked up, but I like the hunting shaft the best. My dad has something like that hanging in his gameroom! Cool trip! Sounds like you are going to have a very busy summer!

I got to meet Samuel Hawkins great grandson, some years back. He was even the fire chief in the same town his great grandfather was fire chief in. Of course, the Hawken Shop has been sold, and is now run as a reminder of the way things were. I do, however, have the only cartridge Hawken ever made. Wasn't much left of it, but Samuel gave me the blues along with the rifle. I have been slowly restoring it. It is a full stock 45/70. That was really something to meet him. I have also been to Gediah Johnston's grave in Orange County Veterans Cemetary. He was known as Liver Eating Johnson. That was pretty cool to go to. Not too many people know where he was buried.
