Hi Momma,
When you start looking at agates ... you get in to one heck of a spiders web!
Some material is named for it color and some of it is named from an area that it is found and some of it is named after an individual which found the material. It is possible to have three different named agates all coming from the exact same place ... it all depends on who is selling it and what they wish to call it at the time.
Check out the many web sites that offer "agates" and see what you find ... you'll have some great information to soak in.

Hi yall, Thanks for the info. Ok last night I decided to do some research on the hole agate thingy and I spent over 8 streight hours(no lie) looking for them. What would you Ladys and Gents. recomend for a Black agate? Same question for a Natural Agate? Is there such thing as a Natural agate? If so where do you suggest I find it?
Thinks all for the help.

WOW that is a thoughy- It is all natural agate (unless it has been dyed or "enhance" But I would probably lean to a Lake Superior Agate for natural (as opposed to a cut slab?) The black is a more difficult- Does it have to be called black or are you looking for a "Black Agate" (proper name) Or try here www.firemountaingems.com/shopping.asp?skw=KWGSBEADBLACKAGATE

Tourmaline and such are not agates- agate is a qurtz based mineral- Tourmaline is Tourmaline- ect. As far as the quartz goes (crystal wise) I have several Herikmer crystals (double terminated clear quartz crystals) Depending on the size I might be able to help you out there- I also have some nice specimens in the dolomite matrix- Just let me know! Oh and good luck!

Hey Thanks Stefan that would be awesome. I am just looking for like 1-2inch stones nothing fancy just tumbled and smooth.
Thanks connrock (tom) That was really helpful on where to find special rocks in this state. Cant go out looking for rocks when snow is on the ground, wouldnt want to listen to children screaming its too cold.
