Most of my rocks were bought or found about 30 years ago when it was easier to go out west and find them. Now does this make my rocks "old stock" or what. And what do they mean when they are talking about "old stock?"

YES it does- Better send everything you have to me (heck I'll even pay postage) and start new! ;D No actually when vendors speak of old stock- they are refering to "picked over" rough- as in all the good stuff is gone and all thats left is crud!

if you ask me id say thats just a fancy way of saying my stuff was found along time ago there old rocks --but they forget that most rocks are a mill or so years old prob more and just cause there rocks where found 30 years ago there no older then the ones found yesterday on a new dig,, they just want you to think what they have is special --i think its just an advertizing ploy to make you think you just cant get this type or quality rock anymore ---dont get me wrong theres some rock out there for some reason or other that cant be gottin anymore,, but most times they say that its a buncha balony -- hahaha

It's a term that implies that the material was found long, long ago, and is no longer available, so it is obviously worth like $60 per ounce - first come, first served, get it before it's gone!
Sometimes the material was actually collected just last year, is easily collected by the ton, and is sold for five bucks a pound by other dealers.
Marketing 101.

my impression was that "old stock" was indeed material from old collections, bequeathed or refound or both. but as Rox points out, a lucrative marketing adjective not easily certifiable.
